Are there any other Life Coaches here who started out Nursing ....

What is a life coach? Must just be in Australia. Maybe we use a different name.

Life Coaching is where the "Life Coach" works with their client to help them to live extraordinary lives. The way it works is through weekly coaching sessions where clients identify what is most important to them and align their thoughts, words, and actions accordingly.

As a coach, I work with my clients to identify what they wan't personaly and professionally, and support them in achieveing a life that they really wan't and love.

As a coach I :

Encourage the client to set goals that they truly want

Ask them to do more than they may have done on their own

Help them to focus better in order to produce results more quickly

Provide them with the tools, and structure to accomplish more

No it wasn't dreamt up in Australia this is something people have been doing for years. However Thomas Leonard (US) is thought to be the Master Mind behind the so called Life Coaching Movement. There is also an Aussie fellow by the name of David Rock who was also working on a model for Life Coaching at the same time here in Australia so we can take some credit, however I am a big fan of Thomas and his approach.

Having a background in nursing I find to be ideal in moving towards a professional coaching role.

I am sure there are plenty of Nurses in the US that are looking at coaching as another skill they have to offer. I would love to have some discussion with them here. It is very exciting stuff.

David,

Sounds like it would be the ultimate in wholistic nursing. Thank you for the explaination. Sounds like it has great potential for a private nursing business.

It sounds very beneficial from an entrepeneural prospective and as a client. I took a series of semeinars (the name escapes me at the moment) that sounds similiar.

Thanks for saring that David. Have many of the coaches started out as counselors or nurses?

B.

Specializes in Community Health Nurse.

Well, this sounds like an undertaking that I can do as a nurse. I will look into it some more. Never heard of a Life Coach, but it sure sounds like an awesome career change. :D

David,

Got any email sites where we can get information on life coaching? How is nursing in Austraila different from the US. It is so great that nurses from other countries come to this site.

Sorry for the delay in replying. A good place to go for info on Life Coaching is http://www.coachville.com I am also putting together a site specific to nursing coaches however there is nothing there at present http://www.nursingcoaches.com/

I hope this helps.

David :)

Specializes in surgical, neuro, education.

David--I have never heard of this--but it sounds like a wonderful path for nurses to travel. How did you become interested in this?? I was unable to find anything on your website. How do you find clients? I have been looking into parish nursing--but my area is not very receptive at the moment due to monetary constraints. I am far from rich so I need some cash flow if I am to decrease my hours to try something new. This sounds like an excellent way to go.

Did you get certified? Please fill us in more on the details of your career. Thanks :) :)

There are a number of companies offering Training for Life Coaches. I became a lifetime member of the coachville community which provides online resources as part of the membership cost. I will be attending their training sessions and become certified through their program.

For more general info and links to various training providers, take a look at http://www.coachfederation.org/

As far as getting clients, it is like any business you have to promote yourself and get referals from previous clients.

One approach I am about to try is to publish the address in nursing journals, of what is basically a one page sales letter at this site http://www.nursingcoach.com/ I will look at placing more info about myself on that site at a later date. I also offer Business Coaching which I will promote through other interests.

I still work in Nursing and have other websites that I hope to produce regular income from, however I see coaching as becoming my fulltime carrer over time. It is something I really enjoy doing and it is very satisfying. I believe nurses make great coaches.

:) I hope you find this helpful.

Regards,

David
