hello! I'm an RN from the Philippines who recently took the NCLEX for the state of California..the board sent a letter notifying me that i passed it and that they needed a valid U.S. social security number for them to be able to issue me a permanent RN license but in my case, i have none because I'm still here in the Philippines..the board did not also issue me a temporary license..what's the usual process for the issuance of license especially in California? do i need to apply for it to the board? please, please help...I'm at a loss on my next move

There is a forum for foreign nurses. I would recommend posting your question in that forum because they know exactly what to do. There is also a really good moderator here Suzanne that seems experienced with foreign nurses. Try asking her. :) Good luck!

I do know that friends who recently arrived that you don't have to take the NCLEX again.
You may have to re apply if you don't get a Social Security card in time.

Moving this thread to the International Forum as it is specifc to International nurses.
CA has not issued you a license, and a number will not be issued until you can give them your SSN#. And there is no way to get that until you have gone thru the immigration process and are in CA ready to begin work.
They will not issue a temporary license either since it cannot be used as you do not have a SSN#. Temporary licenses are only valid for 180 days as well.
If the three years passes, and you do not have a SSN# by then, CA will remove your application from their files and you will need to re-apply. You are unable to do that in advance, not until the three years are up. Or you can apply to another state that will issue you a license # and have CA submit proof of passing to them, but be aware that you will need to go thru the License by Examination procedures since you do not have a US license to endorse.
