Effective next day. About $100/year for $1M/$6M coverage as long as I'm an employee not an independent contractor. Covers HIPAA accusations, license defense, depositions, and more. NSO was preferred vendor in school and I just stayed. The other major carrier is Marsh/ProLiability. Both offer free online quotes with full descriptions of the policy coverage. Both offer new grad discounts within 1 year of licensing. Rates are similar for much of the country

Insurance premiums depend on the state where you are located. In the vast majority of states, nursing can be obtained for $100/yearly with coverage limits of $1 million per incident and $6 million aggregate.

I live in a litigious state where the insurance is significantly more expensive and the coverage limits are lower due to aggressive jury verdicts here. For the longest, NSO was charging $200/yearly with coverage limits of $100,000 per incident and $300,000 aggregate. Until recently, Marsh Affinity/Proliability had stopped offering coverage here.

Many nurses also obtain the professional liability insurance through their homeowner's insurance policies as an additional rider added to the coverage.
