lexapro

Can anyone tell me about the medication lexapro? I couldn't find it in my drug book. Have you had any pts on it...if so, what are some of the common side effects and how well does it work?

It's just a slightly different formulation of Celexa. I think it was released last year. I haven't had any experience with it.

It's a fairly new SSRI "escitalopram"

Celexa is "citalopram"

Lexapro has allegedly less side effects, which is good because I took 2 doses of celexa and had a psychotic reaction. (Will never take a SSRI again)

But then again, plenty of my patients are doing well with either

I have been on: Celexa, Zoloft, Paxil, and now Lexapro. It is the best of all. It really tackles my depression. I love it! As far as side effects, I don't remember. I just know the only time I get depressed is when I forget my pill for 2 or 3 days.

Someone I know was on this medication for nearly two months. She started having severe problems urinating, then soon was filling up with fluid in her lungs. She had severe bilateral edema from her knees to her feet, couldn't get her shoes on. Went off it and within 3 weeks the fluid build up was gone. It seems that many of these drugs in this catagory can cause urinary difficulties. Guess it's just your body chemistry. As with all medications one should be alert to changes in their body.

When I took it, I was really sweating a lot! My hands and feet were always dripping. Stopped it, and have had no sweating problems.
