Leeches

To all the nursing students,

Do you know anyone in your class that you feel is a leech? You know, the ones that always keep pestering you for questions and help on homework they SHOULD have had done in the first place but waited until the last minute to do so? Or the ones that always bother you when you are trying to study and just always ask questions that they clearly have the answer to?

How do you deal with these types of students?

Next quarter, I plan on studying alone and seeing what happens. I wonder if other students on here feel the need to cut themselves away from other nursing students who they feel are dragging them down...are you one of them (the students that study alone)?

To those who are making great grades, do you take the time to help the "leeches" or do you cut them out of your mental focus?

i knew who the leeches were from day 1. they were the ones that asked me to give them the professor's powerpoints... while the professor was talking... when they could just get them themselves in the library...

the ones who asked me to give them a pencil on the first day of class...

and wanted me to lend them my book too...

i helped them day 1 and that was it. we all got it rough. i'm working and don't have time to help people that won't help themselves. i have a nice little group of girl friends and we help each other with everything; whether making copies of notes for each other or lending books over the week.

you have to know who is responsible. don't cover for anyone who won't cover for you... it sounds really selfish but frankly we are all sacrificing something in NS: family time, fun, sleep... no time to be lazy and asking people to spoon feed you. be nice but not overly nice...

good luck :-)

we see them here all the time. they're the ones who feel entitled to have your work as their own, who want you to do their homework for them, to provide them with all the resources they need to cut and paste for their papers, and who whine if they don't get it. this is different from the people who ask for help and are willing to give it back, or who you can see are struggling but trying.

tell the leeches to do it themselves and then don't give them a second thought.

There is no time for leech-catering in an ABSN. You have to look out for number 1. Unless you are working in a group where everyone gets the same grade, keep to yourself. My class is full of leeches, I however have made friends with the genuine people. Leeches are not ever going to look out for me after I am a nurse. I have 6 months to go before graduation. Keeping my eye on that!
