Lecture and image use

Can anyone give me any good sources or websites or advice on preparing slides for lecture?

I use the copyrighted slides from the book and use text book images, does that mean I can't embed videos or use other images on those slides? If I made my own slides is it plagiarism if I use online images/videos and cite?

I want to be creative, but I want to go about it the correct way. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi there, I'm a nurse educator as well and what I've learned is- images on the internet are copyright protected for the most part. Free does not mean OK to use, and attribution does not mean license to reproduce.

    Creative works are considered the property of the owner- which is why you can't use copyright protected music on Fb, for example, when making a video. You can use images from government sites, such as CDC and FDA, as they are in the public domain. You can also google creative commons. If you use text book images or journal images, you must request permission to use.

    The chance of getting caught is low, but to me it's about doing the right thing, and as an educator I represent my organization and do not want to put them at risk. Also I have a nursing blog, so I'm very careful and have an account with Adobe photos to get my images. I have heard of bloggers being shut down. Best wishes :)

    The use of copyrighted material for educational purposes clearly falls under "fair use", which means you can legally use copyrighted images for educational purposes. This is very well established legally.
