Leaving after 6 months

Published

How taboo is it to leave a RN job as a new grad after six months? I had to relocate for this job and had high hopes for the new area/position. I thought my husband (who was also looking for work) would find a job up here. However, I've been lonely and miserable ever since I've been up here. I don't like the new area at all, and I don't know anybody up here. Additionally, my husband landed a job 3 hours away from here, and we're living separately now. I work night shift and my schedule doesn't usually give me 4 days off in a row or weekends off, so I'm only seeing him twice a month right now.

The orientation was only one month, so I've been out of orientation for a while--that's not a problem. I haven't had any bad evaluations or really too many problems with my manager/coworkers at work. It's really personal issues more than anything that makes me want to leave. I would keep this job for a while if my living situation was different.

y be miserable? i would secure a job where you want to move to before you leave though. u actually have a good excuse if they ask. you want to relocate to that area as your husband lives there now.

The relocation reason would not cause any problems on an application... :)

Sounds like a good enough reason to me. Go be with your husband!

Start looking for a job in your husband's area right now. Sounds like he couldn't find one in your area, so maybe you'll have more luck. If you can stick it out until you find another job near him, try to do so. Otherwise, if finances allow you to be unemployed for a while so that you can move back with your husband sooner, go for it.

Good luck to you.

Also- this is based on what I did when I moved from TX to IL (gag)....see if you can get some interviews set up ahead of time- it will give you an idea of what's out there- and let the employer know that you're on the way :) I had a couple of interviews set up before I left TX- and it helped. Two offered me jobs within a day of the interview, and the other was as pleasant as festering hemorrhoids in salt water....didn't like that toad. :)

Thank you everyone for the advice! I appreciate it so much! I have started sending applications out. I plan to have something lined up before making that kind of move.
