Laptop for Nursing Program?

Hi all!! In orientation for CSN's RN program they talked a bit about using a laptop in class. Does anyone recommend doing this? I've never used a laptop in a class before and I don't often see people with one. I think it might be really helpful though. Any thoughts??

not to sure well because I was day dreaming but I think you can access yout texts via software online or something?! thus bringing a laptop to class!that would be cool because i have a baby size one!!

I use a laptop during lecture and if you can type quickly I say go for it. At CSN they post the powerpoints online so you can pull them up during class and type your notes right on the bottom of the powerpoint while she is lecturing.

Thanks!! I most definitely can type faster than I write!! Can you tell me how you can type notes right on the bottom of the powerpoint? I've never noticed that that is possible.

a laptop is not a requirement and it certainly doesn't guarantee a student better grades. i passed the csn rn program with the use of a pen, notebook and recorder....emphasis on the recorder cuz it helps more than your laptop.

still, presence of mind (not daydreaming) and reading your chapters before class starts will get you an A.

When I open the lecture notes, it always has the open field at the bottom where you can type notes. If not, save the file as a power point presentation 2003, and it should open with the notes field.

At CSN, they do not allow recorders in the first semester. Not sure if this rule applies for subsequent semesters, though.

And I have to agree with you on reading the chapters. DON"T get behind in the reading!!

Even if recorders are banned I'm sure there are those that can still benefit fron using them, some people like to record themselves reading the notes/text aloud for playback later. I'm definetly gonna find someway to keep mine usefull since I spent two hundred bucks for it. Also I recently purchased a smart/pda phone! I know this will be usefull for pdf. files so I cant wait to utilize it when I am out and about!

Get the Acer Aspire One. it is small...very small, but powerful and only 349 dollars.

I just got one at Best Buy. It was an Acer and it was only $399. It's not one of the tiny ones though. Why won't they let you record lectures?

That's good to know - about the recording lectures thing!

I ended up buying a Dell Studio 15...and so far I love it!! It's not small like the one someone mentioned...but it's not too heavy and will still fit in my backpack! I can't wait to use it for class starting in January!!
