Lacking skills

Published

I have been a nurse for a few years now. Right out of school I went into a specialty (home care and care management) that didn't require a lot of the hands on skills we learned in school, No IVs, no blood draws, no Foley's, etc. It did afford me the flexibility for my family, which is what I needed at the time. I really want to switch jobs but I'm afraid that even though I have a few years under my belt my lack of skills is going to be an issue. I feel like I don't have a lot to bring to the table l, any advice?

I can identify somewhat with your situation, Choco-latte, in that the first 7 years that I was a nurse- an LPN- I spent six in psych and CD treatment. I got my RN thereafter and for the next 13 years moved around quite a bit, in & out of psych and medical.

I found that having a rudimentary knowledge of the medical field- as you most likely have- aided me in medical job positions, such as ER, med/surge, and HH SNV. The probation/training times greatly aided me in the transition and full advantage was taken.

If we lay our cards on the table for prospective employers, make our strong and not-so-strong professional attributes be known, a positive educationally enhancing situation can take place.

The best to you!

You have a lot to bring to the table. What are you looking to get into?
