kaplan scores

Published

hi guys

i was just wondering what scores did you get in the kaplan qbank and question trainers before passing your nclex-rn exam?

thanks a lot! :)

This is my very first post, although I've been quietly reading on the sidelines for quite some time. I took my NCLEX yesterday and just found out this morning that I have a license! Believe me, I know how stressful this whole experience is, so now I feel compelled to share my Kaplan experience with you and lend you my support. I hope this helps.

First of all, I know RN programs are different. I was fortunate to have graduated from a program that tested us with Kaplan-style questions that require critical thinking. Having said that, I went into Kaplan with a fairly good foundation. For those of you that feel lacking in this skill, I do recommend Kaplan. Not only is it a good comprehensive review of everything we've crammed over the last 2-3 years, but it helps put you in that mindset. I am not familiar with the other prep courses, so I cannot rate those.

Second, give yourself time. You deserve to allow yourself ample time to prepare. I graduated Aug. 11, took Kaplan on Aug. 15-25 (2-week course). I scheduled the NCLEX for Sept. 21, giving myself 3 weeks to review. I read the textbook, took all trainers, and completed all QBanks. It IS time consuming, but what's more important, is to review EVERY SINGLE QUESTION, plus EVERY SINGLE RATIONALE. I went back and reviewed the questions that I even got right, and discovered that even reading the wrong choices and their rationales provided very helpful information that reinforced the topic. I googled everything I didn't know: equipment, procedures, diseases, meds. (I even fell upon a YouTube video on chest tubes...which I got on my exam.) I took notes. I did this in the morning. That night, I reviewed my notes. I did this for 10 days (2-3 Qbanks/day), and these were my scores:

Diagnostic: 58

Trainers 1-7: 59, 72, 62, 57, 61, 64, 62

Readiness: 62

QBanks: 62 (total average)

I reserved the last day to relax. Needless to say, I did not feel ready, but I knew I did all that I could with Kaplan to prepare myself. And when the tested ended at 75 for me yesterday, I cried at the computer station and left that center feeling literally sick to my stomach. There are only a few fortunate people who leave feeling confident. I can assure you, I was not one of them. It was easily the hardest 24-hours of my life.

But this morning, at 8am, I got what I'd been praying for. And it's because I developed a study plan...and stuck to it. Just please, put forth your BEST effort to prepare and give yourself the time to do so. DON'T RUSH THROUGH THE QUESTIONS. And if the exam does not end at 75--just take a deep breath and keep focus. The number of questions is irrelevant!!!! My friend panicked because she answered 257...yet she passed!

So, CHIN UP . Work hard. I KNOW you will do well. I wish every single one of you the best!

Of course, Prayer and Faith are always good to have on your side!!

Diagnostic- 59, Readiness-58, Q1-55, Q2-59, Q3-52, Q4-61, Q5-60, Q6-59, Q7-60.

I did all of the QBank and then some. Because it is said that Qtrainers 6 & 7 are the most like the NCLEX questions, I took them again 2 days before the exam, and scored a 92 on Q6 and a 91 on Q7. Qtrainers 6&7 really prepare you for the exam, because it forces you to really pay attention to what the questions are saying and allows you to actually critically think.

thanks yoda and wetzoo :)

yoda: love your comment, it helps me a lot

wetzoo: have you taken the exam? were they similar?

wetzoo: have you taken the exam? were they similar?

Yes. I took it on monday, and stopped at 75 questions. I found out that I passed on Wednesday. :)

I didn't think that they were that similar, but I was able to apply the critical thinking skills that Kaplan teaches you to the NCLEX questions. Good luck.

Congratulations both of you!!!

Diagnostic: 52%

Readiness: 57%

QT1: 60%

QT2: 46%

QT3: 59%

QT4: 50%

QT5: 52%

QT6: 54%

QT7: 57%

Qbank average (I did every question): 60%

Took my exam this morning, 75 questions and got the "good" pop up. I thought the NCLEX was actually easier than Kaplan. I had 8 SATA questions and they were a lot easier and more straight forward than the Kaplan SATAs. I also had 2 drag and drop re-order questions, those were also fairly easy. I had 1 med-calc, and the rest were priority questions with quite a few infection control

Overall, I think Kaplan did an EXCELLENT job at preparing me (maybe even over prepared) and If I had to do it again, I would choose Kaplan every time!

Be confident in what you know!

You've made me feel so much better about myself. I have been panicking crazy because I have not been scoring Kaplan's suggested scores. Congratulations on your great achievement and thanks so much for sharing your scores and opinion on the NCLEX. Wish you much success :)

JohannaR: I wanted to post my Kaplan scores because I had checked all nurses prior to my NCLEX to see what other people had scored and passed and all I could find was a couple people who said they scored in the 70s which really freaked me out. I kept looking for proof that my scores were among the norm and apparently they aren't so I was positive that I would fail. When I started the test this morning, I knew by the 10th question that I was on the right track. I believes Kaplan scores in the 50s are more than enough to get you to RN status. 6 of my best friends in my program took NCLEX with Kaplan scores in mostly

50s and a couple 60s and passed in 75 questions. You can do it, I really believ Kaplan has done a fabulous job with their practice questions and if you do those you'll be more than ok!

Having confidence and being confident in what you know is half the battle. So walk into that test knowing you're going to kill it and before you know it, you'll be an RN!

Thanks for the encouraging words. I will continue to do all the question trainers and all of the qbank. Thanks again and wish you the best if luck. Oh before I forget are the "who so you see first" questions as hard as in Kaplan on the actual exam?

Some of the "who would you see first" are very similar to Kaplan and others are fairly easy to pick out the stable patients and eliminate them. Overall, Kaplan did an amazing job preparing me for the NCLEX and you're probably going to walk out of the exam thinking you over prepared (better over than under though, right) lol
