I’m very surprised that there are over 500 views but no replies. It could be because you answered your own question, meaning your in a great position at Kaiser by far. Also yes memorial is great for new grads but if you get in. I hope your current situation is awesome. Which hospital did you end up working at?
I was surprised I didn't get any bites on this either! Well, the new grad positions at the Kaiser Locations I had applied for at the time only had 1-2 openings and more senior employees got those so I didn't get the position unfortunately.
I did get offered a position at Long Beach Memorial, but ultimately I didn't take that one either.
I'm currently at St. Francis and not even on L&D, but on Med Surg. The recruiter did a whole bait and switch and I wasn't in a position to turn down the job, so I took it.
Thankfully, I will be starting in L&D at LAC+USC early 2022.
I believe West LA is non-benefitted, but the one I had applied to when making this post was for a benefitted position. I didn't apply to that one since it's on Med-Surg and I was able to get a L&D position elsewhere.
@kkvalenz thank you! I have an interview with the WLA one next week, but I am thinking of canceling. I feel like it will take a while to be brought on as a benefited new grad, and I might be better off at a traditional new grad with benefits...
Ugh I swear the way some of these hospitals are run- I am sorry you weren't able to start on L&D but happy you're on your way now!

Hi All!
I just wanted to start a thread for anyone racking their brain on a similar situation. I am a new grad RN, ADN with BSN in progress. I have been in contact with the nurse recruiter at St. Francis in Lynwood and it sounds like she might be interested in hiring me to my desired unit, L & D nights, but if not, Med Surg days. Recently, I also applied to Long Beach Memorial's New Grad program to L & D nights and found out that Kaiser will be having a new grad program at select locations in October. Here are my thoughts.
I feel pretty confident in my resume that I may get selected for the New Grad Program at Long Beach as I have experience on my desired unit. I have heard great things about Long Beach Memorial and heard it's a great learning environment.
I also currently work at Kaiser Permanente in a non-clinical role and have done a lot of research/ talked to a lot of people in regarding to the New Grad Program and I feel that I have a good chance getting into the program as an internal candidate. The New Grad Program at Kaiser is only in Med Surg and I have heard that Kaiser is not truly a teaching hospital. Of course, the pay and benefits are great.
Lastly, St. Francis sounds like they are willing to hire me on as a New Grad into L & D, however, it is not a New Grad program. I would likely have a preceptor for x amount of weeks and be on my own.
What are your personal thoughts and what route would you go if you were in this same situation?
Thank You!
