Just Finished RN-BSN Program

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

I just completed the RN-BSN program at UTA last month, if you have any questions or need to talk to a UTA graduate feel free to ask.

Congratulations! That's a great accomplishment and you should be proud. I'm considering the RN-BSN program but still am not sure. I've heard people had difficulties with admissions (losing transcripts, taking forever to evaluate, not getting credit for courses) and there were a lot of group projects (people had to do extra work since others weren't participating). Did you have any issues? How long did it take you to complete your degree?

Working with admissions is very difficult and what you've heard is correct, but the group project information is inaccurate. There is one class, Nursing Research, which is a group class. You will take two tests by yourself, but everything else is done in a group. Aside from the Nursing Research course, nothing else I did was part of a group. It took me ten months to complete the program, but it was a heavy load the entire ten months.

What were some of the pre-req's they required for this program that may not have been 'normal' ADN requirements? I have been looking at the courses that Texas State requires and a few others and I am surprised that I actually won't have a lot of them done.

I didn't have a lot of them done either, they're a project in themselves. You'll have to have two history courses, two government courses, algebra, statistics, a literature course, and probably a few others, these are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Congratulations! I am almost there myself. Currently taking Research and then Capstone. How was Capstone? Was it difficult? Do not like the Research class at all

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Hi commonsense,

hey, that's great that you're done.:D you may not remember me, but you contacted me via PM re: Medical Term a few months ago. I just want to be in your shoes. I'm in Research now and i can't talk about it because it is just too upsetting. Anyway, next I have leadership and mgt and after that: CAPSTONE!!!! I have a friend who took Leadership and she will give me the inside scoop on that, but i really haven't heard anything at all about Capstone. so, what can you tell me about that?

i hope you drank a lot of champagne as you pressed that very last submit button....

Can you tell me more about the capstone? And how much support do you get from the program? I applied in April, and aside from 2 or 3 phone calls, I've heard very little from Admissions.

Capstone is pretty basic. The majority of your grades are based on discussions and weekly assignments. You'll have one major project that will be due the final week, but overall the project is not extremely time consuming.

I'm sorry to hear about the research course scarletfire, that was a brutal five weeks for me as well. Once you get past that class you'll be sailing smooth from then on. Capstone is very basic, couple assignments, discussions every week, and one final project and you'll be on your way to an A.

Thanks so much, commonsense,

Just what I needed to hear. If you would have told me it was a duplication of Research, I really think I would have gone outside and jumped in front of a truck or something. Absolutely could not take another one like this....not now or in my lifetime.

Would you mind if I contacted you again once I get into Capstone if I have any other questions?

later, ScarletFire
