Jobs and Call backs?

I mean you can send in 1288664 billion online applications, call HR till your fingers fall off, After everything done, does anyone ever call back for an interview?

If so how long did it take for someone to call you for an interview?

I received no responses to my online job applications. About eight out of 10 times I apply for work in person, I am hired on the spot.

I would fill out the online application if that's how they required it, and then go turn in my resume in person and say I had filled out the application in person but wanted to drop off my resume and letters of recommendation. Sometimes they wouldn't accept it in person, but they would at least take down my name. It usually resulted in at least an interview. Not always, but definitely makes you stand out more.

I redid my resume asking several people to review it. A classmate of mine had her resume professionally done and let me look it over and I picked up a few tips this way. I

always include a cover letter and try to target my online application to the position as much as possible. As hard and tedious as those on line aps are, I take my time and do them carefully and include a typed version of my better letters of recommendation. After all the above, I started getting more calls.

If the job is important to me, I try to find someone who knows someone internally to put in a good word for me in HR. I will call HR too--but find what you are saying to be true, they don't really want to talk with us. I also walk in and try to leave my resume, but this only works in certain places. Don't make the same mistake I did and spend hours driving to a facility only to have them say they only take online aps.

Good luck on your journey

^, Thanks for the advice, but I can't walk into the HR dept because I've been applying all over up state, down, east, west, neighboring states. All over, and yes I have tried to target my resume for the hospitals I apply to. I have tried emailing, leaving messages, but all I've been getting is the same broken record speech , "OH Thank you for your interest, but we are looking for someone with more experience."

My only hope is one day GOD will hear me, but until then I guess the search continues.....

yup....feel your pain.

I should've added to my expert sounding letter of advice above that I have yet to land a job (smile)......and I have been looking since February when I passed boards....sigh. Was just hoping some of my wheel spinning can be of benefit to someone as it's done nothing for me.

I do a lot of praying for patience that my path will be revealed. My youngest starts first grade in September and I will go crazy without a job. I am angry at myself for spending such precious time with my kids, not to mention financial resources, wrapped up in nursing school.....only to find that I will be a stay at home mom for the first time in my life and all kids will be in school until 2:30pm! I've signed up for a couple flu clinics and hope they call me in to work. By September I will be ready to take any job even not nursing related.

Good Luck on your journey

I once spoke to a unit manager of an ER department who said she gets hundreds of apps from individuals on a weekly basis, but does NOT schedule interviews or even LOOK at them. She only scheduled interviews for those who found her phone number, email, etc.

Having personally applied to hundreds of online positions and got nowhere......I think this is the case in most places.

One day, in a desperate attempt, I started calling hospitals. I called a local community hospital 3 miles from my home and asked to speak to the nurse recruiter. When I had HR on the line, I stated that I was an RN inquiring about positions in critical care (at that time no positions were posted). She took my number and said she would have the unit director call me. And he did about 2 hours later! And the next day, I came in for the interview he told me there was a position opening soon and I got the job. He, too, showed me his stack of applications from people who had applied online for past positions. None of them ever got called in for interviews. They just got the standard "we will keep your resume and application on file for future consideration should we have an opening".

Just my .02 worth.

This info is good to know. I had no idea no one ever looked at your application! Scandalous! (sorry, had to interject that)

good advice ICUSkeenRN. I have called HR, they never seem to pick their phone, i left a message, and will call back tomorrow. I got the name & phone number of the unit manager, i don't know if i should call to speak with the manager, just to introduce myself or just drive there and leave a copy of my resume....what do you think? i really dont want to step on anyone's toes....especially a prospective employer
