Job problems. HELP!

Published

Need some insight and help with a decision I need to make.

I started a new job a month ago in a new state-we moved. I am seriously reconsidering my employment choice.

I am educating personnel. Never thought I would miss working with nursing staff. I do!!! Feel very removed from my roots and I don't like it. Also, there is more travel than I planned for.

I had 3 interviews and 3 job offers prior to the move. 2 were in a town 20 minutes away and the 3rd was in the same town where I live. The 3rd job is still open and pays better (about $15,000 more per year) and has state benefits.

What would you do in my position??

current job- M-F no holidays or weekends-travel 6-8 times per month with overnight stays-have small children and a hubby that travels for his job. (if I leave I figure it would be better now than 3 months from now). When home must drive 20-30 minutes to work.

job that is still open-5 days per week-some weekends and holidays. 3 weeks of days and 1 week of swing shift. 5 minutes from home. A nursing job.

I will make my decision by the end of the week.

Thanks for any input!

My advice is to do what will make you happy. If you are missing working with nursing staff and you could be closer to home and you have a more money perk, then I say go for it. But make sure that you have arrangements for the kids when you have to work weekends or hubby is out of town. I found that it really wasn't so bad working the holidays at times. I enjoyed working with the patients, especially the ones who had no one to visit them.

We actually moved across 5 states to be closer to family and husband's job. My in-laws are caring for my children 4 afternoons per week right now and also on the overnights when my husband is gone. I'm not happy right now and I'm seeing my schedule for the next 3 months and there is a LOT of driving. 3 hours of driving each day round trip (several days per month) plus 8 hours of class or meetings and overnights. Winter will make it even more trying, etc.

Thank you for your response!

Well reading the posts I think the answer is obvious. To take the job 5 mins away, pays more and is nursing. Good Luck!

I would move before the evaluation/orientation period is over. It wasn't what you had thought it was gonna be. You've already made your own evaluation.

Otessa,

I have one question. Why did you choose the job you did?

I agree if you know this early that it's not right then go ahead

and let them know. That's what probationary periods are for

(and actually not used enough) for both parties to try it out

and see how it fits.
