Trying to decide between 2 jobs. Please point out the pros and cons that I am not thinking about!

Current job- School nurse. I have been doing this since August, thought it would be better since I have a baby. It is boring and lonely!! And I do not like working 5 days a week. But it is easy and probably would be good when my baby goes to school.

New Job- Pediatric floor nurse. I worked on this same floor previously so I know that I enjoy the work and it would be part time (2 days week). I would make about the same money. But weekends, holidays, and a little more stress.

What would you think is better for a mom of a young baby? 2 long days working and 5 days off? Or school type schedule?

I'd take the PEDs case. Only working 2days a week and make as much as the school nurse job that works 5....definetly

I'm a SN and I would say work the part time long 2 hour days. I did that with 2 babies home in dipeys. My husband was able to be with the kids more, as was my mother, and I had more time off. Win/Win.

If you enjoy the acute care pediatric job and don't mind working some holidays and weekends, then go for that one. I am a school nurse and work PRN at the hospital (adult med-surg/telemetry); the things I miss the most are the pay and the three day a week schedule for a full-time job. I've often questioned whether I get that much more time with my kids because of the 2 extra days I work. But, I do NOT enjoy the hospital job very much, so it's worth it to me. It is nice when you're in the same building as your kiddo (I work at the elementary and middle school that both of mine attend), but if you don't really like school nursing, definitely move on.
