Is TB causing problems for nurses in countries other than the United States?

Hello everyone

There has indeed been quite a substantial increase in the number of TB patients treated in our hospital. Many patients are immigrants from third world countries who had not been diagnosed before coming to Australia. It poses a great public health issue. ? maybe there is a need for improved testing before immigration.

Maybe bigger picture stuff- world wide attention to the problem.

I work in Sweden and we have a growing problem with multiresistentTB. This mostly conserns patients from former Russia and east-europe. A couple of years ago we rarly saw TB here in Sweden due to our vaccinationprogram. But nothing last forever...

It is a problem, mostly for the patients who has to be isolated,some times dont speak so good swedish,maybe dont have family here, take many diffrent drugs and have to cope with all the sideeffects ect ect.

But also for the staff. We have to be careful and always remember how we would feel like if we were in the patient situation.

This kind of medical care at a specially infectionward is very expensive. But here in Sweden we finance it with taxmoney.
