I wouldn't live there. I think that there are better places to live that are right next to Escondido. Rancho Penasquitos, Poway, Rancho Bernardo, Scripps Ranch, etc. It depends what you're looking for. These areas are the suburbs, good for people with families. If I was single without kids, I would live in Pacific Beach or Hillcrest.

How far is Pacific Beach or Hillcrest from Escondido? I am going to work in Palomar Medical Center and I don't see myself driving my own car in the next couple of months as I still have to secure a license to drive. Do you know any place close to the mentioned hospital that is safe and nice to live in (just on a temporary basis until i sort things out) And what the places to stay away from in Escondido.

Unfortunately, Pacific Beach and Hillcrest are about 30 minutes away. I don't know Escondido that well, just by reputation. There are some really nice apartment complexes in the area according to rent.com. It might be difficult to get around without a car though. If you're going to take the bus, check out http://www.sdcommute.com, there is a trip planner on there. I'll try to check out the area for you. Don't worry, it's not like the "ghetto" or anything.

Ventura is a good city for an older, single person. Now you've got me here in deep thought. I personally like the city of Pasadena. I also like the Diamond Bar area of Los Angeles County (West Covina, Azusa, La Puente). The San Diego area is expensive, too.

Ventura does have a mystical allure and charm to it. East Ventura is nice, but more fast-paced than West Ventura. I personally love the neighborhoods of West Ventura and Midtown, just as long as you don't live too close to Ventura Avenue. Ventura Avenue is the high-crime, drug-infested part of the city. Locals colloquially refer to this area as 'The Avenue'.

Thanks. It's so awesome being able to talk to someone who's been there. I'm looking at Ojai and Thousand Oaks, too. What do you think? Checked out the websites for Los Robles and Community Hospitals. They both look nice. I'm going to visit my sister-in-law in May and will be able to drive around and check out neighborhoods, hospitals, etc. I can't wait!

Ventura, since it is next to the beach, has cooler temperatures than Thousand Oaks. I worked in Thousand Oaks briefly and found that the people were snobby and the weather was undesirable. The summers are extremely hot. Thousand Oaks is a nice, upscale community where many wealthy people reside. Of the 2 cities, I would select Ventura due to the mild weather.

What about Ojai?

Hello everyone! Could someone (preferrably many people) tell me about Hermosa Beach and Malibu (weather, crime, cost of living, good hospitals, night life)? I am in a nursing program (with my fiance) in Tennessee, and we are wanting to move to SoCal when we graduate. (We've got a fever that only Cali can cure;).) I would appreciate as MUCH information as can be possibly provided. We are wanting a quiet neighborhood just minutes from a bustling and "happening" (if you will) city with many shopping centers, fine dining, and of course a gorgeous beach. I thank you all in advance for your time and help!

Ojai is an artistic, small town with charm. Most of the people who live in Ojai commute to other cities in Ventura County to get to their workplace. The summers are very hot and the winters are chilly, sometimes snowy, due to the town's inland location near the mountains.

Thanks. It's amazing that a distance that small (from Ventura) makes such a difference in climate. I'll have to check out that little town while I'm there in May.
