Just wondering if I should shell out the money for the classes even before I take the first nclex exam. Does it help? Let me know what you think

If you can afford it, go for it. Its a good class but the QBank is the best.

I think Kaplan is definetly worth the $$$. I see this way: if you take Kaplan which cost around $429 combine that cost with the nclex fee of $200, with Board of nursing fee of $190. Total: $819 You're probably thinking "that's a lot of money!" BUT think about how much more you could spend if you don't take Kaplan the first time, then end up failing nclex... My goal was to take the nclex and pass it the very first time. Kaplan will help you get through that tough test, granted you do your part. Also, Kaplan's course is backed by a money back guarantee. In my case, the hospital I work for will reimburse the fee I paid to Kaplan! It's a win-win. Good luck!

Don't bother, HUGE waste of money. You can buy the Kaplan book for 20 or less online and it teaches you all the same stratagies. It even comes with a CD with a mock NCLEX. There are several other sites you can get a qbank like program for about 50 or less. I used NSCBN site and it was extremely helpful...and besides all the practice tests it also comes with a complete review. I didn't take Kaplan and i passed first time 75q in 45mins. Dont waste your money.

For me, it was. The Q bank, review of content, and test taking strategies helped me pass the first time around. If you can afford it, I'd say go for it.

Depends on you. If you are a good self-starter and do well reviewing on your own, just get a prep book or two, take the practice tests and review where you need to. If you know that you're unlikely to open a book and review without a class and instructor to prompt you or if the comraderie of studying together with a larger group is more motivating, then take the class.

I studied from kaplan strategy book...wanted to take a course in classroom but figure it out that i can do better on my own...and I pass NCLEX first time.
My advice is...exercise questions...I did 13,000 questions in 4 months...450 per day...12 hrs study/daily...had work but I save it money and travel time.

I thought it was worth it. I guess it boils down to how confident you want to be for the exam. I felt Kaplan prepared me better than other NCLEX guides. I saw more Kaplan type questions than anything else on the exam.
The $20 book is good but, it only gives you about 250 questions and, I wanted to do a hellava lot more Kaplan questions than that. So, I bought the online course with all of the questions. As it turned out, a lot of that extra material did show up on the NCLEX exam I took.
