Is 2 classes in the summer same as 3 during the spring/fall semesters?

Published

I have a 3 year old and work part time but will stop to be able to focuse on school yet still do the housewife duties and take care of my little guys, so i dont want to over work myself since this semester was pushing it. Right now I'm struggling to keep my grades up with a part-time job and home duties and school and homework.

1- class this summer

or 2- classes this summer :/(TIME WISE)

Typically colleges consider full time in the spring/fall semesters as being 12 credit hrs per week. Since summer school is typically have the length of time as the spring or fall semesters, colleges usually consider full time in the summer as being 6 credit hrs per week. (typically two 3 credit hours courses). In answer to your question, it depends on the credit hours the class is supposed to receive.. Is it a 3 or 4 hr course? For example, Taking four 3 credit hour courses in the fall/spring is considered full time. Taking two 3 hour credit courses in the summer is considered full time also.

You're the only one who can truly judge what you can/can't juggle. How short is your summer semester? I'm taking 4 classes this summer, but I'm not working, nor do I have small children at home (mine are teenagers)

Summer semester at my school is 8 weeks instead of the usual 16 weeks. So, it's like taking courses at double the pace. If you're currently struggling, do you think you can handle the accelerated course pace? You want to set yourself up to get the best grades possible. My advisor nearly had a coniption when I told her I was taking 4 classes this summer. However, I know for certain I can handle it. I'm re-taking several courses I took 18 years ago that no longer count for admission because they're "too old", so 2 of them are more like a review than new material. The other two classes are only 2 credit hours each (Healthy Lifestyles & Phlebotomy) however, both are "hands-on" type classes with very little homework. I feel comfortable taking them since I can focus solely on school.

Honestly assess what you think you are capable of doing. 2 classes should be do-able if you feel you can devote enough study time to them. What are you thinking of taking? Are they study-intensive (like A&P or Micro)? Are they gen-ed type courses (like English or Math)?

Good luck with your decision :D

Time-wise, at my college during the Fall/Spring a normal 3 hr lecture (labs require more time) would be about 3 hours a week in class. During the summer, we would meet 5 hrs a week. So two classes would take up 2 hrs every day in class plus studying. I'm a single mom, and I work 32 hrs a week. I personally really like summer classes (and the 12 day intersessions even more), but if you are already struggling, I wouldn't recommend taking on too much during the summer because it is a much faster pace.

Awsome thank you so much! If i was to take the 2 classes i was thinking of doing. it would be 7 credits total. one is 4 and the other would be 3 credits. Now im able to figure out more of homework hours i will need to put in. thank you!!

Our summer courses are 6 weeks long, and its gen-ed (Eglish and a Math) Ya, thinking this summer just 1 class. I want to keep the math fresh in my brain. Thank you ladies:)

We also have 8 week summer sessions. I took 9 credit hours last summer, and it wasn't easy, but doable. I'm taking 8 this summer, and, other than take care of my son, all I will do is schoolwork. :uhoh3:
