I am anurse who was just tested pos for THC as I had smoked a few weeks prior at a party. I am not a user. It was a momentary lapse in reason. Now i have been reported to the BON in Fl. An investigation has been initiated and i have been forthright with everyone regarding my pos test. I have made no excuses. I just spoke with an IPN person today for the first time. She asked all the questions and took my statement. My quandry is this, while i was fired from that job, i quickly procurred another job at anothe SNF before knowing I had been reported. I have only completed my orientation. The woman at IPN asked me if I am presently working. I told her no as I have not yet received a schedule so I am not currently working yet. My question is, can i start working since i have signed nothing and my liscence is still active? What are the ramifications if I do? Can the IPN findout if I am employed? I have a child to feed and a mortgage to pay. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. Scared to death!

Kkristine: i am not in the same state as you- but have been through a monitoring program. IMO, you should ask someone at IPN if it is ok for you to take that job. you do not want to start the program with a secret. i know how difficult all of this is going to be- but honesty is necessary. best of luck!! keep us posted- you will find lots of good support here!

I was fired because I tested positive for THC. I had to surrender my license for a year and now have my probationary license with certain terms for one year. Honesty is the best policy. I lost everything when I was fired and lost my license.

wow. What a high price to pay for a one time lapse.
Michelle wow one year? What did you do for income?
I had to move in with my mom and she helped me. I was a single mom and no one wanted to hire a RN to waitress or cashier...it sucked.
Although now I have the best job of my nursing career and am beginning to get my life back.
Also...I was not a regular pot smoker... I smoked a joint after a bad break up 2 1/2 weeks before my random drug test. I haven't smoked pot since.....over2 years ago.

But seriously...don't they have bigger fish to fry. So you smoked some pot on your own time. Ridiculous. I wish the laws would become reasonable so people wouldn't have to be punished over something so petty. Sorry this happened...no advice really. But when asked if working...having a job means working even if you don't have hours yet. You should contact them immediately and discuss your employment.

Actually the investigator, nice man, told me not to say i had a job. He even led me to the point of saying, "you dont have a job, right?" i am very opconfused. I feel like one is saying one thing and the other another thing.
Not to split hairs but i was asked if i was working? Not if i had a job. So technically, i am not working. Yet.
That is weird. Hmmm....I don't know I would be afraid to not be honest.
