I have a question and I assure everyone that I searched the ENTIRE site before asking. :)
I have to go in for an IPN evaluation as directed by the Board of Nursing. However, I am wondering what the Evaluation consists of. I am certain there will be a blood or urine test. That's a given. They did tell me that there are a series of "tests" that will take "several hours" and that is ALL they have told me.
Does anyone know what the eval consists of that can enlighten me?
My concern are the medications that I take for my Bipolar Disorder and Epilepsy calling my "judgment" into question at work. I am not concerned with narcotics or anything like that. I guess what I am afraid of is losing my license due to my health issue.
I will jump through whatever hoops they want me to, of course...but I just want to know what to expect at the evaluation.

I was very drowsy at my job one night. My pdoc had just revised my meds and moved up my seizure/bpd meds quite substantially. My charge nurse reported my "condition" to the DON after I came off the 11-7 shift. I was already home in bed. Apparently DON called the BON to report a nurse who was "under the influence". I asked for a drug test to be done...they denied me one and terminated me. So, BON still wants me to go for an IPN eval despite the fact that it will likely be found that I don't need "treatment".
Like I said...I will do whatever the BON wants me to. The IPN people assured me that I probably won't have to go through their treatment program...
I honestly don't get how this whole thing works. I'm a nurse for 10 years without a blemish on my record. It's killing me.

i have no idea what the eval will contain, possibly something similar to a psychiatric eval; you may want to check with some on the recovery board, some of them have had to go through some type of intervention program from what i've read.
it's upsetting that they would fire you without a drug test. i wish you luck.
The reply I received was that I should have been drug tested on my shift. Instead, by the time I was notified of this...it was already during the 3-11 shift the next day. Yes, our charge nurse screwed up big time by not testing me. More than likely this will end up in court. However, I want to respect the boundaries of allnurses.com and not discuss the legalities of this.
