interview preparation

hi,i have got an interview on 15th as deputy sister band 6 for acute medical unit.Please help me how to prepare and what questions can i expect

I would imagine you'll get questions about how to deal with difficult surgeons, what to do if a theatre list is submitted and your not happy with it, what to do if there are emergencies intra operatively.

Not too sure about theatre but maybe stuff about patient advocacy, if your hospital is involved in the safer patient initiative that has some theatre involvement as well, with the safety briefings so that would be something to think about, if not then take a look at the SPI work and maybe that could be something you would want to develop as a band 6

Hi, Sharrie. I am a Band 5 outpatient nurse in a hospital setting who is applying for a Band 6 post of DVT/Anticoagulant in the community treatment center. Since i am a Band 5, i haven't done a presentation before and really don't know where to start with my topic which is "The Assesment and Care of the DVT patient in the community". Any ideas would be helpful. I have already done extensive research but just don't know where and how to start my presentation.

You're advise on preparing an interview is very helpful, by the way.

Hi Raxie, community care is an up and coming speciality and there is a push now to move sicker patients into primary care to off load the pressure from acute services. This is probably where I'd begin with a recognition of why these things need to happen.

Your organisation will have a policy about DVT management in the community so a start would be to find that, if it's not available on the intranet then maybe contact one of the community nurses and see if they can point you in the right direction.

The presentation sounds very clinically based so I would lean your presentation towards clinical needs.

Remember with presentations don't put too many slides in there, they are going to want to know that you can deliver this without reading from slides so if your doing 10 minutes then maybe 8 slides max and keep the slides fairly light in content so bullet points. There is nothing worse than a busy slide that you can't focus on because it contains too much
