Interview for my dream job

Updated:   Published

I am a new grad and due to my persistence and contact (classmate recently hired after doing her practicum on this unit), I have an interview in my dream unit in my dream hospital for an L&D position. I need all the advice possible to note screw this up. I recently got a job offer I have to turn down for this. I am an internal employee and I know how hard it is to get L&D as a new grad so any tips for my interview are greatly appreciated.

(My background: I have a previous B.S. in pre med psych and just earned my ASN plus start my RN to BSN next month, I have been a nurse tech for a year at the same employer but a different hospital)

Specializes in Pediatrics, Pediatric Float, PICU, NICU.

I have no L&D experience so can not offer much advice, but I would suggest not turning down any other job offers until you have this job offer on the table. Good luck on your interview!

The other job is at a different hospital and they only allow 2 days to make a decision plus it requires a 2 year contract. I struggled with turning it down but I have other opportunities in my current hospital I'm waiting to hear back on as well as another offer for a new new grad program within my hospital that allows me to keep my upcoming interviews.

2 days, 2 yrs? Good you passed. Was it an HCA facility by chance?

Specializes in New Critical care NP, Critical care, Med-surg, LTC.

I also have no L&D experience, but they know you're a new graduate, so don't worry about too much about the nitty gritty stuff. Your enthusiasm for the position and ability to work will come through. Just be prepared to give them examples of how you will approach general nursing and teamwork after your clinical experiences. Good luck on the interview!!

No it wasn't, I've avoided even applying there due to the local horror stories of their facilities and my own clinical experience at one.
