Insurance Co Interview

Well, not to be melodramatic, but I have had enough of hospital work. So, I have been on medical leave due to anxiety/panic attacks/stress... and I wont return (per md's advice). However, I really need to work, and thought outside the box nursing wise, sent out resumes, and lo and behold I got an interview next week with a major health insurance co. :monkeydance: I am so happy with the possibility of getting this job. But, I have questions about how to phrase "I have had it with traditional nursing, and I want to do office work now":lol2: Whats a good, tactful way to put that?

What should I emphasize to them? I have never worked anything besides RN positions, and I know what to stress for that... but this? what are they looking for? Has anybody had experience at one of these interviews?

The position is in "care management", and Im assuming that means case management... and telephonic "review".

Any tips, please???

I would just say that you desired a change and thought you'd try this type of nursing ..that's all. My bf's aunt used to do this type of nursing....she got a company car and everything....and got paid very well for it also.....she's retired now. All she did was assessments all day on people for insurance......

Yeah, thats another thing... the money.......but honestly, I am willing to take a cut in pay, and I know I will have to. And I will miss my $19/week family plan very good health insurance. But, my piece of mind is more important!!!!!

well then I think you just answered your own question...lol! Good luck! There is nothing worse than going to a job you don't want to be at...that's why I hope when I find one (soon I hope too) that it is one I will look forward to going to everyday too..........and money isn't everything even though it helps......if you're not happy nothing else matters in life...... I did this and loved it!!! It was directed towards worker's compensation injuries and I handled the catastrophic cases due to an extensive clinical background in trauma/burns also. Check though as even though I was part time I recieved insurance, paid days off, etc just as a full-time employee but based on the hours I put in. Lots of the work was done at home and on the road which gave me ample time to take care of my kids too which was nice on thier sick days. Pay wasnt bad as I also recieved 32 cents a mile travel along with an hourly wage while traveling. Lots of phone work speaking to mds, pt, medical suppliers. Lots of investigation into prior medical problems that the client doesnt tell so you get to be "monk" on occasion lol. Once you get comfortable I think you will be glad you made the choice.
