Inspiration!!!

hey all!

i'm sitting here watching masterclass, on oprah's new network, and diane sawyer just said something that i found so inspiring. it was actually something someone else said to her regarding marriage but i feel like it's something that we can apply to all other aspects of our life as well. she said:

"criticism is just a really bad way of making a request. instead of criticizing, why not just make your request??"

i heard this and thought, "aha!!!

:idea: so simple yet so true!!". (i can be a little critical at times). this is a new year and we could all use some inspiration to get us going on meeting our resolutions (whatever they may be) or just being better versions of ourselves in 2011.

i notice alot of people on here have sayings and such at the bottom of their posts and i just love to read them. sooo. . . if anybody else has a favorite quote or some inspiring words to share, i'd love to hear it!!!

    Sorry I just cant see criticism as a request. As for your request, may all your doctors be reasonable, all your orders legible, and all your patients compliant. As always, your mileage may vary and objects in the mirror may be bigger than they appear (hmmm, just realized there's something Freudian in that last one!).

    Quotes like the one you heard relayed from Diane Sawyer allows us to look at the world differently. Isn't that what it's all about? Gain a new perspective on something in order to deal with it positively and efficiently?

    And, with all due respect to dthfytr, I can understand how a Criticism is merely a Request in Wolf's clothing. It's a Negative response in order to get a Positive reaction- a need fulfilled.

    Which brings me to another Concept I like to Pontificate on Proliferately: All emotions stem from feelings of either Love or Fear.

    But I won't Tarry. I'll plant a Seed and Let It Be.

    At other times, especially exceptionally busy ones, it should be "The force will be with you....always..." Or possibly, "Flying through hyperspace isn't like dusting crops...."

    One of my favorites, though not inspirational, comes from Winston Churchill: "Yes, Madame I am drunk, but you are ugly. Tomorrow, I shall be sober, while you will still be ugly."

    Apparently, the great WC was a great lover of the bottle; legend has it that on the occasion of the broadcasting of his "We shall fight them on the beaches" speech, he waited until the transmission had been terminated, then picked up his bottle and said, " And we'll fight them with empty beer bottles..."

    Well, think about it, if one of your coworkers were to say something like "Gosh dthfytr, you type sooo darned slow!", What they would really like is for you to type faster, right? So they could just say "Hey dthfytr, I know you've had a pretty hectic day but I really have a ton of charting to do. Do you think you could try to get done quickly so that I could use the computer next?". Voila!! Now obviously, this isn't applicable to all criticisms (some people criticize just for the hell of it), but it is definitely something that I think I can use towards self improvement. As for your quote: ((in a German accent)), "yes, yes, Freudian indeed".

    GHGoonette, that Winston Churchill one was HILARIOUS!!! Lol!
