These immunizations to get into school are gonna cost me so much $$$ I wish there was somewhere that does it for free!!

Is there a department of health in your area, or a number to call where listings for free immunizations are provided? Also, at times, the school itself may have resources.

O yes they cost a fortune.

If you can't get them for free, I know the health dept. told me a tetorifice would only be $15.00. That's a lot cheaper than my doctors office.

You may want to try a clinic. In my area a lot of them have websites with prices for everything. Also a lot of drug stores like Rite Aid and CVS Pharmacy are starting to have wellness clinics. You'll pay a little more than at the free/community clinics but the wait is shorter. The insurance I have through my employer picked up most of the cost besides my copay but the pain is what is getting to me.

I didn't have to be immunized for school, which was fortunate. Instead, I had titers drawn.

My immunity to the measles, mumps, rubella, chickenpox, and the hepatitis B virus was confirmed when I had my blood drawn to test for sufficient antibodies to these afflictions. The titers indicated that I was immune, so I didn't need any booster shots or anything of that nature. A tuberculin skin test can be performed and read at most county public health departments for as little as $10.

The titers had cost me $14 a piece at a local hospital. This was the cash price (no insurance), and I didn't need a doctor's order to have the titer drawn.

I am getting mine at the health dept. I started my MMR and Hep B series over the summer so I only need one more MMR and Hep B, this school is requiring chicken pox. MMR will cost $20, Hep B. $50, and the chicken pox depends on whether you've had it or not. $20 if you never had it. $114 if you had it but want the added immunity. I was told that they may require the titer to determine immunity so that will be an added cost. TB skin test is $10. I had my tetorifice shot a few years ago and I'm working on getting proof so I don't have to pay for it again.

I did my physical and tb skin test for my CNA at Walgreen's Take Care Clinic.

What list of immunizations/vaccines must your get before starting the Nursing program?

Not sure if this is universal at all schools, but mine requires 2 MMR's, positive varicella titer or I believe 2 vaccines. A TB test, and if you want Hep B vaccine series. I almsot forgot you tetorifice needs to be up to date also. Hope this helps. =)

Our school requires a full series of immunizations as well as titers.

I was able to get several through my health unit for free but had to pay for my titers, tb test and hep b's out of pocket. All together with the physical it was $480! That was cheap too...I called all around a 100 mile radius. It sucks...I spent 6 months trying to get my records of course they cashed the checks I sent but, no records lol. No I'm not bitter! :lol2:
