Immunizations....

Published

I applied for Fall at Ivy Tech and I'm pretty sure I'll get in. I want to go ahead and get my physical and immunizations and all that out of the way.

Anyone know what immunizations I will have to get? I tried to call the Nursing office but I can't get ahold of anyone up there.

Hello,

you have to have dates for

1. MMR (2 dates) OR rubeolla/rubella titer

2. varicella vaccine OR titer OR documented history of being diagnosed with varicella in the past.

3. Hepatitis B vaccine. First dose must be given by the time you turn in your physical form or declination statement must be filed.

4. 2 step TB test-wait until you receive physical form because the person doing the reading and testing must sign.

Hope this helps! :nurse:

Awesome....thank you!!!!

Thank you! I was just thinking about this. I'm pretty sure I'm in here in SB, because the cutoff is usually much lower than the points I have, and even the nursing dept staff is telling me I shouldn't worry! So I feel like I can start planning ahead now. Anyway, my dr from when I was younger is retired, so I'm not sure how to get my shot record lol!

-Kate, who's getting excited now!

You can check with your elementary school and high school. If your not old like I am, they should still have your records. :D

Worst scenerio, you will need to have either a titer done or just go ahead and get the MMR shot.

Counting the days till I start! 11 days to go.

:yeah:

I have the same problem. My pediatrician has been dead for years and when I moved to Indiana, my mom never got a Dr. for me so my records were never sent here.

I had to call my high school to get what I needed. I can't believe they had that stuff still! Worth a shot and it will save a bunch of money if you can get the info.

That's a good idea....I will call them today!!

just a tid-bit of info...I took the CNA class and had to get all of those shots and I have no insurance. the Marion County Health Dept (I went to the one on 21st and Arlington) will give you ALL of your immunizations for $10, the TB is $5 each. Some people in my class paid over $300 for all of these. You have to tell them that you need them for school, they don't "advertise" it, so you have to ask for it!

*personal opinion, I wouldn't waste the time with titers, it takes time and money and it wont hurt you to just get another shot rather than pay for the titers and then have to pay for the shots. (thats what the nurse told me)

Happy "arm hurtin" day!!

Thanks Misty!! i just called my high school and they are trying to hunt down my records. They switched to a new system in 2000 so they dont know if they have shot records from that far back. Keeping my fingers crossed.

No need to track down your shot record---just get the MMR titer, as you should get a booster anyways.Odds are you were born before 1993 so you probably got your Heb B in high school, or if you were like me and already out of High School in the past 10 years, you will need to get that series. Then you get your TB test.

Just tell your Doc I need to be properly vaccinated to go to nursing school he will know what you need. Not to mention the school should send you a check off sheet and it will have it on there.

FYI my school did require a tetorifice, that was something I looked up, cause those hurt!!
