Immunizations....

I applied for Fall at Ivy Tech and I'm pretty sure I'll get in. I want to go ahead and get my physical and immunizations and all that out of the way.

Anyone know what immunizations I will have to get? I tried to call the Nursing office but I can't get ahold of anyone up there.

No need to track down your shot record---just get the MMR titer, as you should get a booster anyways.Odds are you were born before 1993 so you probably got your Heb B in high school, or if you were like me and already out of High School in the past 10 years, you will need to get that series. Then you get your TB test.

Just tell your Doc I need to be properly vaccinated to go to nursing school he will know what you need. Not to mention the school should send you a check off sheet and it will have it on there.

FYI my school did require a tetorifice, that was something I looked up, cause those hurt!!

There is a need to track them down if you don't have any way to pay for a titer! EXPENSIVE! It is an educational requirement in elementary school to have the shots, so why get titers when you know you had them? My HS never required a Hep B, but I already had the series, thank goodness. I believe the only booster necessary of the ones mentioned is the tetorifice, which is good for 10 years. The Ivy Tech I go to didn't require the tetorifice. As long as you had the two MMR injections as a child, then you are good. I don't necessarily think doctors know what each college requires for nursing school because they don't all require the same things. A physical form with the necessary information needed will be given at nursing orientation, after being accepted to the program.

Ah the tetorifice. Yuck! When I was pregnant with my daughter, I had a flood in my basement and stepped on a rusty nail. So I'm good on the tetorifice anyhow for the next 6 years. Yaayyy!! That's not an experience I care to repeat.

I know I have had all my shots but I'm certain I will need boosters of some. I just want to get it all done and out of the way so I don't have so much to worry about in the next couple months.

I'm even pre-cleaning my house so I don't have to stress over it when I'm doing the school thing. With 4 kids....that will last all through nursing school. Right? LOL

Heheheh, I can relate more than you know. The pre-cleaning HAD to last through the first semester anyway! The dust bunnies liked hanging out in my house, but are gone now!

I have a feeling the dust bunnies will be hiding in every nook and cranny before long. My house is literally turned upside down right now. I'm ok with that though.
