I'm done with nursing

Your work conditions doesn't sound normal. And if a work is giving you this much emotional problems, be glad to resign, I would too.

However, not every workplace is bad. Take a break and get yourself together. And then move on. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Having to take meds myself to survive from a house fire when we lost everything, a child who was almost killed in a car accident and a son that that had serious complications from surgery, all with in three years.... I understand that life gives us more than we can handle at home, let alone, be therapeudic at work. Let alone safe some days.

I have been blessed enough not to need more than two weeks off to recover enough to work, but there is family medical leave available, if you have been at work a year which is there to allow you time to heal from your personal issues.

You may consider not resigning to do this and take it back to enable you some time to get your meds therapeudic and be in a better position to nurse.

While your job situation isn't that clear from your post, I know personally, my job frustrations came from not being able to handle my own load at home and not being whole for work.

If this isn't true for you, I wish you the best in your search. Know that until you are OK with yourself, most jobs will present as a stressor that is difficult to work in.

I wouldn't let one job in one field of nursing discourage you from nursing forever. It seems like you got a terrible fit, and a position with very little support. Even if you were to stay in Psych, there are probably other places that would be a healthier environment.

Definitely take some time off. Try to work on your anxiety a bit. Look for new jobs when you can. 6 months is not a bad start. You gave it a good try. Employers know that not everyone is a good fit for every job. There are still other job types. Try to look for "new grad" programs (yes, even with experience). You may even be able to do a little home health care, or some other types of non-traditional nursing if you can't find a job doing what you want.

Blue- Hugs to you, and I'm sorry you are having so much trouble. If you really feel this way, I don't think you should be ashamed, or feel like you should continue to "Tough it out." Some people get through Nursing school and find out that being a nurse isn't really the right "Fit" for them. Happens in a lot of professions. Iwould suggest that since you've gone through SO much work to get through nursing school, perhaps you might try a different type of nursing job? That's one of the great things about nursing.....there are lots of different fields and levels of stress/ect. I hope you manage to find a field in this profession that fits you better- but remember. NO JOB is worth your mental health or your physical health.

I would say to not to give up yet. Try another area of work - Doctors office, insurance company, etc. You have spent waaaaayyy too much of your time and energy to throw in the towel completely. Try another place and see if this works. Good luck to you. Let us know what you decide.
