I work in the float pool at my hospital, I got hired as a new grad and have been there for nearly a year and a half. I work all around the hospital, but most of my experience is in med/surg.
When I first started a 2 people, on one particular floor, said some things about me. 98% complete lies. It was investigated and proved that they were lying.
Anyhow it has managed to stick around. My manager has a low opinion about me. Nothing I do seems to be enough. I can’t chsnge her opinion. Regardless of all the nice things coworkers/pt say about me. Even the two people that lied about me, have gotten over it and have no problems working with me.
I feel I have given this hospital everything. See my last post, where I reached breaking point. I was/am so burnt out.
I feel like there’s nothing I can do to change things and just want to move on.
But 1) I don’t know where to? I like having variety and working with all age groups.
And 2) I’m worried about references. I feel like no one would hire me after talking to my manager.
What can I do next? I know I need a fresh start.

If you get a new job before you leave this one there is no reason they would talk to your manager. Most people put "no" when asked if their current employer can be contacted, simply because they don't want to alert them that they are looking. I have never had this be a problem and neither has anyone I know had a problem with it.
No job is going to give you "all age groups" except perhaps working at a family practice clinic. If you are that unhappy, just try something different and see how you do.
You aren't stuck. Don't let your stressed out brain tell you that you are. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

This is not your fault.
No new grad nurse should ever be hired into a float pool. That is just setting you up for failure .
Apply to work on a floor that interests you. I've been a nurse for 10 years and you couldn't pay me enough money to work float pool. It's a very difficult job and I have a ton of respect for those that work it...but it's no place for a new grad.

The new employer will contact the hospital to find out if you're rehireable. End of story. Don't use the manager as a reference.
As to what you can do - with 18 months experience, pretty much anything you darn well want to except maybe ICU and even that may depend on how much of a "shortage" exists.
Is this the only hospital where you are? Are there any floors you gravitated to as you floated?
