I start in 3 weeks, now what?

Published

I am a 24 year old adult returning back to school to complete my BSN. I was accepted into an accelerated BSN program and will start in about three weeks. To clarify, I have completed all of my pre-recs, and will be doing all of my actual nursing classes. I am sort of at a loss of what to expect. Does any one have any advice for me? My advisor is on a medical leave of absence and I don't get a new one until a month into my program so I don't have much guidance from my school. Does anyone have any advice on some basic supplies that I may need or any other necessities besides the obvious? I have the stethoscope, the shoes, the scrubs etc., but I am just at a loss of where to begin for everything else. I will be grateful for any and all tips received. Thanks and have a wonderful day!!

My advice might not be politically correct, but you're enrolling in an accelerated program. Accelerated programs are known for their fast, furious pace.

I'd use these days to relax and enjoy the free time if I were you. After all, this brief time period before school starts will probably be the least stressful time for you in the next couple of years. Good luck!

I agree with Commuter, enjoy these last few weeks because you wont have another break until you graduate. As long as you have all the required papers, supplies and what not I wouldn't think about nursing school until your first day when they will tell you what you need. Good luck!

Take a trip, get your house well organized, stock your freezer with quick meals, go over your finances and get them organized, etc.

Do all the things that will make life easier when you have less free time.

Does the school have a website? Maybe you can contact someone who is filling in for your advisor.

I did an accelerated program and everyone told me to relax- read a book, go on a trip, etc. before starting the program. I went to multiple info sessions for multiple programs and they all said the same thing. That's exactly what I did. I took a road trip a couple of weeks before starting with my best friend. I spent time with family and friends. I read some books and I nannied until right before school started (I really loved the kids and family I worked with).
