I could SCREAM...

the majority of the teachers at my school are great...but there is one third grade teacher who is driving me bonkers!!!!!!! she sends kids to me for the stupidest things..."doesn't look right", "too quiet", "feels like they may be sick a little"....really?!?!?!? she just came in here with a kid, who is a known class clown and frequent flier, because he's been very quiet today. so?? i wanted to tell her to count her blessings and get on with it, but i didn't....there is never, ever, ever anything wrong with any of the kids she sends in here. half the time, they tell me they don't know why they're down here, she just said they needed to come. ugh. whatever!

ps- i live in a small town, and said teacher happens to be a friend's mother...she's still driving me crazy though.

    It is so frustrating with those types of teachers. I ususally write on my nursing slip exactly what the student tells me. "My teacher said I look sick" or "My teacher said that I look hot" Make sure you keep track of how many students per day/week come to you from this class and compare it to other classes. You can then share it with administration if the situation doesn't get any better.

    I have a couple like this, and then I have the ones that won't send a kid to me for anything. Usually by the time she breaks down and sends the kid they have a temp 103 and look like poop. That one makes me just as mad - - is there no happy medium???

    Whatever happened to good old fashioned common sense? Teachers, come on!!! It ain't rocket science!!!

    Gerri Harvey once suggested to map out on a bar graph the number of kids sent to the nurse's office from each teacher over a month's time. Share that graph with the teachers names coded, so each teacher only knows their own frequency, and share with the teachers and the principal. When the teacher sees how out of proportion her pattern is, that is usually enough to change the habit.

    First, I would talk to her about appropriate use of the clinic. I have had a few teachers who were so scared of being sued that they would send just about everybody to the clinic. I was getting as many as 15 kids a day from this woman.:uhoh3: I didn't get anywhere with her, so I had to get the principal involved. That put a stop to a lot of it. She still tended to send kids, but she cut it down to about 3-5 per day.
