I have a question for all of you nurses out there

i went tuesday and got my schedule for my classes. and they were having trouble placing me into classes. either they were full or they were at a time i didn't want. they recommended to me that i take both the lpn and rn pre-requiste classes.but the rn ones were full.they placed me in a class called introductions to computers. so i was wondering if any of you have had to take a class like that for nursing? and i was wondering how will that class help me in nursing? should i keep the class or drop it replace it? i want to replace it.

Most nursing schools do require a computer class as a pre-req....I'd keep it

Intro to micro computer's is actually one of my pre-req's. It's also one that is scheduled at times that aren't friendly to my schedule. If it's one of your pre-req's I would avoid dropping it if at all possible. Good luck1

Yes, I would take this. I had to as a pre-req. This will be very valuable if you are working in an institution that uses computers for charting, medication administration, etc. Also, it is good to have knowledge of the windows system. (i.e word, excel, access) If you are ever in a leadership role and are doing a presentation.

I agree - keep the computer class. Those classes that were open but were scheduled at times you didn't want - do you actually have a conflict with those times? Or is it just that you don't like classes at a certain time of day? That just kinda caught my eye - there are a lot of people trying to become nurses and in order to get everything done, you're probably not going to always have your first pick of class times.

well i haven't dropped the computer class yet but i have added a class. i went and added computational math. when i went to take my compass assessment test the lady giving it went over my scores and recommended or should i say suggested that i take computational math. at first i turned it down because i didn't like the available times for it. but i changed my mind decided to go ahead and take the class. i figured that the lady probably knew what she was talking about when she recommended it and that i probably did need to take it. has anyone took that class or something similar to it?

I took my assessment test three years before I started back to college ( I actually started back last fall) and it had been over a decade since I was in highschool. I barely missed the needed points to opt out of taking the beginning algebra course. Instead of just testing again I decided to take the beginning algebra course and I was glad that I did.

I'm not saying that you will need it but be sure to check tutoring options out at your college.

Hm... no computer class for me.
