I passed! 84 on Final Exam

Published

Woooohoooooo! I am done with NUR 216! One more semester to go. The last semester is broken into 3 segments. 5 weeks psych, 5 weeks neuro and 5 weeks precepting. I graduate in May 2005! Was alittle touchy in the beginning to. I got a 70 on 1st exam, 72 on 2nd exam and an 80 on 3rd exam and an 84 on the final. Our school requires a 70 to pass the course. My average is a 77.7. Boy am I looking forward to this month off though. Need to spend time with the boys now and make some extra money at work!

Good Luck to everyone! :rotfl::rotfl:

Congratulations on passing!!

You are so blessed, too. I look at the requirements to pass in your course and am so envious. Were I where you are, I would have passed...(still moaning and groaning in Virginia....*shrugs*) We had to have an 80 to pass and my final grade was a 79.

Students who have graduated from your school....How have they done on the state boards? I ask because that's the reason my instructors gave for taking away points that were afforded to last year's graduating class (even though only one student from that class had to resit for the boards but passed on the second take).

Congratulations again!!

97% pass rate on the NCLEX! Our school is tough and one of the toughest programs there is. You might think a 70 is low but if you were to take one of our tests you would see how tough they are. Our school used to be an 80 to pass, about 10 years ago, then they lowered it. I am sure glad they lowered it. Hey who the heck is walking around, RN's AND Doctors with a "C" on their chest? You never know who actually got C'c or A's. I have been working at a hospital for 9 years now and I have seen RN's with C's and RN's with A's. The RN's who were so "book" perfect had ALOT to learn clinically and had trouble "dealing" with patient's family and clinical stuff like that. Anybody can memorize nursing content, the TRUE test is when we are out in the "REAL" world......working as RN's.

You so said it....One of the things that has helped me the most was remembering that I, in my new status of failed student, will not be the first and I won't be the last. I recall my nursing instructor telling us (this was the first year instructor) that she would rather have a former "C" nurse who knew her stuff and knew how to see patients as people than the "A" nurse who treated people as textbook examples.

And no, I in no way think a 70 is low but I would be lying if I wasn't sitting here yearning and wishing that was what our passing grade had to be. I feel I worked so hard...I lost precious time with my family, was always afraid to enjoy a movie, never went out except to go to school or the grocers or church....diligently studied, typed notes...I tried so hard yet failed. Your reply goes to show that even with helping students there is a good success rate with the NCLEX and again makes me feel....dare I say it?.....that we were robbed.

Congrats and keep up the good work!

Keep your head up and go for it again. I know of an excellent nurse in ICU who failed NUR 105, which is the FUNDAMENTALS course and retook it and did well. She came right out of school into ICU and is one of the best well rounded nurses there. Our school also does NCLEX review in our last semester. Our school seems so different than everyone elses. We don't have a pharm class, or a nutrition class or a peds class, etc. Ours is ALL incorporated into the program. We have a lot of learning on our own also, and we get tested on it. We NEVER went over PEDS in any of our lectures but we were responsible to know it and were tested on it. We never got taught the math. We taught ourselves it and had to pass 1 math calc. test with 100% accuracy the 1st time! For instance NUR 105 consisted of Fundamentals ONLY. NUR 112 (nursing synthesis 2) consisted of pre, intra and post op, ortho, peds, every kind of surgical patient imaginable, etc. NUR 215 consisted of Maternal/Child Health only (which this class was done in 5 weeks during the summer), NUR 216 (nursing synthesis 3) consisted of every disease, diabetes, renal, oncology, respiratory, infectious diseases, cardiac, etc. With PEDS and Math incorpoated into the class. The last semester NUR 218 (nursing synthesis 4) consists of 5 weeks of psych, 5 weeks of neuro and 5 weeks of precepting. The math calc is given EVERY semester with 100% accuracy the 1st time. Also in the last semester we do NUR 204 (professional issues in nursing) where we also do review for NCLEX in this class. This is a 1 hour a week class. It is a pretty tough program and I Thank God that I made it through, 75% so far, without failing a class. Many have failed and it bothers me. I have study buddies who failed this 3rd semester and it is sad.

Enough of the ramble....LOL....Good luck to all.
