I need some major help!!!

Hello ya'll....

I am currently going to online college with University of Phoenix because I was under the impression that I have to do my prequistes before I can apply or go to a LPN program. I have read on here where a few people have gone to trade schools and haven't had to do any prequistes. Where or how do I find these schools? I really want to get my LPN as soon as I can I just feel I am going about it all wrong right now. I have heard that if you do take prequistes you need to take antat., math, physio, and psycho. And right now the classes I am taking are none of those. I am just so lost! Don't want to be a CNA anymore want to be an LPN just don't know where to go or how to go about doing it...HELP!!!:confused:

    In which state do you live? You can visit the website of your state's board of nursing to look at a list of all of the approved LPN programs in that state. Call the schools that interest you to find out about the requirements, prerequisite classes, entrance exams, and other conditions that you must meet for admission.

    By the way, I attended a trade school program that required no prerequisites and enabled me to graduate in 12 months. However, the tuition at trade schools tends to be much more expensive than if you would have attended an LPN program at a community college. You will pay dearly for the convenience.

    If you do not mind telling me how much did it cost for trade school? I live in Colorado right now but am moving to North Carolina for about 10 months due to my husband is military. I realize that if I go to school out there that I would have a North Carolina license but when I move back to Colorado would I have to take the state board for Colorado or how does that work? I would like to get into a school right now to start working on my LPN asap! I just don't feel like I am going the right way with the college I am at now. I just started a few weeks ago and am donig online classes because I thought I had to have prequesties before I got into an LPN program but that my not be the case but if it is...I dont think I am taking the right classes right now. I am just lost...ugh:idea:

    I paid $20,000 in tuition for a trade school in southern California.

    Once you take and pass state boards, you never need to take them again. You simply apply for a nursing license in the states in which you plan to work. For example, if you have a North Carolina license and would like to obtain a Colorado license, you would need to apply for licensure by endorsement in Colorado through their board of nursing.

I emailed an advisor about if they had an LPN program and she said yes we have a pracitcal nursing program. Is that what alot of schools call LPN? That college is a community college how long do you think it would take me to go thru the LPN program...that is if i could even get in!

    1. LPN stands for "licensed practical nurse." A person must graduate from a practical nursing program and pass state boards before legally holding the title of LPN. Therefore, yes, that is what most schools call their LPN programs.

    2. A community college program usually takes about 18 months, and many require prerequisite classes and entrance exams prior to admission.

    I'm sure I would more than likely be taking my prequistes. :down: Not that it's a bad thing just want to get going on this ya know. But I suppose this is just how life goes and you must do things in the order that they come right? Sorry I asked such a dumb question..total blonde moment...haha:lol2: Could you tell me what website I could use to see where there are trade schools at for LPN? BTW...thank you for all your help!

    Do a search on Google or Yahoo for the state board of nursing in which you plan to live. For example, "North Carolina Board of Nursing" or "Colorado Board of Nursing" should get you somewhere.

    Once you end up on the board of nursing website, search for approved nursing programs.

    The prereq for my (L) PN program was a CNA. Some require a med term or Health Careers prereq.

    I started in the spring so it took a little longer to complete because the program broke for the summer. But if you start in fall it was two semesters Aug to Dec and Jan to May. Sooo if you are only in SC for 10 months you may be cutting it close for completion.

    Sounds like U of P has you doing the prereqs for the RN program, however they have their own route for people new to college online and they have first semester requirements above and beyond the ones you need for your field. RN pre reqs/coreqs are usually along the lines of Algebra, English, Psychology 101 & Lifespan, A&P 1 and 2, Microbiology,Chemistry, Sociology, Humanties and Nutrition.

    I live in upstate NY...i went thru BOCES LPN prgram..cost was 7500........that didnt incluse end of year testing or boards...did include books tho...it was a 10 mo prgram....sept to june...m-f 8 to 3:30...

    Paid $10,500 for 11 mo. LPN Course in Ohio. If you have Career or Vocational Schools around you - check into those.

    WOW!!! Have prices gone up since I went to PN school. In 1981, it was $2000 for a 12 month program in NE Ohio.

    New York has the BOCES programs which are excellent. It costs 9500 plus books and uniforms.
