I have gotten a job with a Home Health Agengy. Well its not really home health its more companion and assisting if anything. The company pretty much deals in people with mental and physical disabilities. I love this job because I am getting paid to sit and visit with the clients help them with there chores and take them out in to the community. I dont feel tied down or like Im hooked to a ball and chain. I actually enjoy getting to go to work. unlike my past 2 jobs! but I do miss the long term care setting though of having a set schedual. and knowing that there are other employees around. has anyone else found that they miss there old sector of work but still love there new sector?
I have really decided that I want to stay in to home health for a while maybe even start my own little company after I get my 4 year RN. I wouldnt mind to even go in and start my own little 30 bed LTC facility. where Its all about the consumer. and where its non for profit and my staff gets paid good and treated good because I am a firm believer that how staff get treated in a nursing home is how the residents get cared for. and how the staff works as a team reflects on how the residents get cared for also. but hey its all dreams and lolly pops and nursing isnt a bunch of rainbows and unicorns. I just want to have that dream facility that everyone is lining up to be employed at and everyone will feel comfortable leaving a loved one at and where and elderly person can call home... I dont care about money as long as I can pay my bills and retire someday... but thats just how big I dream I guess lol

Yes I love Home Health Care. I love you can set your own schedule on what days and shifts work best for you. I love the one on one with them. One of the draw backs is that i have no one sometimes to help me when it comes to transfers or something will come up where you wish you can have help sometimes. But over all it is very enjoyable for me, and something I can handle. God bless all those that do work in nursing homes though. I know that I have it good.
our agency does not wear scrubs. Just need to wear black or kaki paints and there are rules on what kind of shirts we can wear. But mainly they want our clients to feel comfortable in their own homes as well as when you take them out it does not look like you are a care giver to the public.
