I didn't get into my program.

They took 40 students, and I am #46.

I would say that it looks good for next time, but... it looked good this time, and I didn't get in.

Now I have to re-apply and wait to find out finally in February. That just seems like a lifetime away.

:sniff: I am trying not to feel sorry for myself, but I am so disappointed, and there is nothing I can do to make my score better (aside from the fact that they give us one extra point when we reapply).

I just hope that is enough.

Our school lets in 52 and I was number 67.

There are a ton of reasons why people don't take their slots. Don't be disheartened yet.

At our school, even #82 (yes, you read that right) got in about 3 days after school started.

(((((hugs))))))

Sorry to hear you did not get in. Can you call the admissions office and speak to someone about how to improve your application?

They never go through alternates like that here. I asked the most they do is maybe 2 people. So number #42 MIGHT get in. Yesterday was the day the chosen had to turn in their paperwork. We shall see... hoping for 6 is a lot to ask for.

Based on the way they work their ranking, there is NOTHING I can do to improve my score, except getting that other point for reapplication.

They work in a point scale of 24. I had 22.15 this time. They cut off at 22.63. Next time I will have 23.15. Sounds promising, but the last time they admitted students the cut off was 20.22. So this time it sounded promising, but it is what it is.

So I'm taking it you got A's in all of your classes and applied with a 4.0?

If that is the case, then you can't improve your score.

If it's not, then you can.

I didn't get all A's but close. It isn't a matter of getting a 4.0 at our school. If you repeat any classes you lose a whole point, if you repeat more than one, you lose two points. Otherwise, you just lose the fraction of a point you would lose for your gpa.

I DID talk to director of nursing, and there is NOTHING I can do to improve my score. Retaking my two Bs would result in me losing another whole point, and I would be further away from getting in.

Believe me, if it was as easy as retaking those two classes to get a higher score, I would have done it already, but as it is, they put more value into not repeating classes.

I have 22.15 points out of 24.

If I retake two more classes, I would have 22.00 out of 24.

When I reapply they give me 1 more, and as it stands I will have 23.15.

So, like I said, the only thing I can do is reapply.

If I were you I would look into other schools. If you were going for the RN why not try LPN first mybe it would be easier to get into a LPN program in yor area then bridge afterwards.

It always breaks my heart when I read that someone didn't get into their program. You work so hard to get in and can't think of anything else but becoming a nurse, and then you get turned down. Total bummer. :(

Don't give up though. Things can change so quickly. A friend of mine got turned down by her program this spring. She was crushed. She reapplied and now she will be in January of next year. Keep trying, apply at other programs. Best of luck to all of you here!

Do you still lose points if your classes expire? I took A&P about six years ago and was told that science and math expire after three years? Is this true?

I'm sorry but that school's system is not cool...I don't think schools should penalize you for trying to improve.:banghead: It's bad enough that you might have to wait to apply again, but whatever (always remember that a delay isn't necessarily a denial). Did you apply to other schools or was this school your first choice?

I sort of see this both ways.

Granted, a student should be permitted to increase their score.

However, here is a different view:

I had about 64 hours of credits before I even applied to a nursing program in another city where my husband and I would have rather moved to.

Because I took these classes 15 years ago, when I was in my late teens and early 20's...I wasn't very focused...I had a 3.0, but not a 4.0 or even close.

They considered GPA the most important factor.

So an applicant, that let's say, took only 1 class and got an A, got to use that GPA of a 4.0 and would have edged me out, even though I had proven I could handle full course loads.

I understand, I quess that despite the sense that it makes, it can still be frustrating on your end. Well, I wish you luck. Hope for the best and stay Steadfast in your Dream of becoming an RN!!!

I am sorry, but I didn't quote before I posted... whoever asked... After my classes are 5 years old I *can* retake it.

I also am applying to other schools. The one I am apply to next, takes the last 12 credits you received in ANY class. So if you have a 4.0 in underwater marble stacking, then they put that with your HESI score and rank you. I do have a 4.0 in my last 12 credits, so I just have to worry about getting over a 90 on the HESI.

Thanks for all the support.
