I am an Excelsior Student again!

I graduated from Excelsior in March, and I just enrolled in the BSN program. I didn't go into the RN-MS program because I want to get my MSN and NP from the University of South Florida. ( I see you are from Florida,too!) I have nothing but praise for Excelsior College...and I am proud to be a graduate (with High Honors!!)

Are there clinicals for the RN-BSN program @ Excelsior, group projects?

I am a proud graduate of Regents (now Excelsior) I inquired about clinicals for BSN several years ago and told there were 3 but 2 of them can be done in locally. I still keep thinking about going back.

Thanks, didn't get a chance yet to call them. Hmmmm, will definitely talk to them about that, since if I have to do them, would be nice to do them in my own area since work f/t.

this is great !!! how long do you see it taking to complete the program?

i am now an official student in the rn-msn program! i am so excited and nervous at the same time! i just took another clep exam a few days ago...

i graduated from excelsior asn july 20 this year and took boards august 15 found out i passed august 17. is anyone else out there in the bsn or msn program? would love to chat with ya!

Eric, are you in the RN-BSN program at Excelsior? If so, are all the courses you need to take online and also what about clinicals (how many, someone mentioned travel?). Thanks! Best of luck to you!

I'm in the BSN program, just not moving very quickly right now since I'm focusing on my other degree. I haven't used any publishing company materials in either the ASN or BSN programs. For the BSN exams, I was able to either check out the recommended books from a library or buy them cheap from sites like half.com.

Basically I've finished all of the general education requirements except for expository writing (I have 18 English credits, but none that meet the expository writing requirement). That one can be completed by correspondence through one of several schools.

As far as nursing credits, I've completed all of the exams except for Research in Nursing, which I am registered for but I haven't scheduled. The exams weren't too bad - they follow the assigned reading fairly well. The WebCT (online) courses are what I am missing right now. I still need the Teaching Across Cultures (TAC), Health Assessment and Promotion, Professional Socialization (PSPR), and the Capstone class.

Here is what I understand about the WebCT courses:

TAC - You find a group of people that share a common ethnic/cultural background who have a shared health learning need, research both the culture and the health issue, submit a proposal to EC, and videotape a teaching session with them. I believe there is a paper at the end.

PSPR - You research a certain aspect/quality of professionalism in nursing, write a proposal, then work with/shadow a mentor (like an educator, APN, etc) and write a paper about what you learned in relation to your particular aspect of professionalism.

Health Assessment & Promotion - You learn about health assessment and promotion through assigned readings and WebCT discussions with your classmates. There are guidelines and deadlines for each set of posts to the WebCT message board. A head-to-toe assessment has to be submitted on videotape. I was in this class, but I had too much going on and had to drop it.

Capstone - I really don't know what the heck goes on in this one. All I know is that it's the last class and it's online. I'm a long way from it right now, so I'm sure they'll change it up before I get there anyway.

The TAC and Health Assessment requirements used to be met through performance exams (similar to the structure of the CPNE, for those of you who remember that) and the PSPR was an independent study project basically. Now though, they've all been converted into semester-long WebCT classes with online discussions facilitated by an instructor. There really are no clinicals, but a few projects that you have to arrange as described above.

I didn't use any publishing companies for ASN either except for Ethics. I found Ethics text books too abstract to be able to study from. I likewise purchased all my books from half.com

I am so encouraged that there are no "real" clinicals. The head to toe assessment used to be a "performance" exam. The CPNE just about killed me. Actually it was so easy...all totally mental. Thanks for the info Eric....Good Luck with all your studies
