No.. didn't do any of theirs.. got credit for an American Literature Course I did a long time ago, then "clepped" out of College Level German I and II... that pretty much satisfied the humanities... I think there was one other, but can't remember now what it was...

I was wondering if foreign language counts as humanities.

See if the CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Literature will fit their humanities requirement. This test is good for 6 credits, I just took it and got a 66 which is an A at Excelsior (I'm not a student there but familiar with them and looked it up on their site). If you read well there is no studying for this test. You don't have to know literature, just read it and answer questions about what the passage is saying. This is an easy 6 credits.

Hello,I took the clep humanities test--via studying from Chancellors--> HORRIBLE. I knew the history of art,lit,etc..book front to back--and studying lots from extra sources online,books,etc.. I read lots of poets,writers,viewed/studied paintings,etc... NOTHING of this was on the test. It was horrible. The test had about 5-7 questions I KNEW for sure, the rest--I knew nothing. It was 85% poetry lines--but from like the middle of a long, long poem..maybe 4 lines from a 10 PAGE poem from Shakespeare or someone.. and they all sounded pretty much alike. You had to tell them what the author meant. I dreaded A & P; Micro much more--but you know what to study for.. this was terrible. Also, it had about 20 tiny B & W copies of paintings--you had to tell what colors were used/styles,etc.... you couldn't tell anything--the reprint/online photo was sort of blurry..You can't retake the test for 6mo.. I may try something else. The worst test I have ever taken in my life.

Wasted lots,lots$$$$ buying Chancellors..anyway, goodluck!!

I CLEPped analyzing/interpreting lit. for a Humanities credit. The nursing advisor verified that it can be taken for that purpose.

Hi, thank you for replying, I don't know if I could even pass that test, it sounds like what I took. I don't interpret poems/literature well. That was why I failed the humanities test-----it was at least 50% interpreting lots of poems .. I don't like poemsI don't understand them.. I have no idea what the author meant by such & such. It's soo vague. Un less I can find a book on what every poem ever written meant...but then; I could never memorize what every line in every poem ever written meant. (smile)

I did great on A & P..Micro,etc... but this..... icky...you have to wait 6 mo before retaking a clep test; I might try again.. but I would have to guess at all that interpreting again.

You don't have to memorize poems to take this test. I hate this stuff too and I doubt reading 17th century poetry makes anyone a better nurse, although there are those who are high and mighty who would find a way to say this makes sense and is somehow necessary. The Humanities test is a broad test over art, literature, etc. and is tough. The Analyzing Literature test has nothing but reading to it, tough reading but still, you don't need to know who wrote it, you just need to figure out what they are saying. And it has modern writing in it as well, my test had something from the 40's and something from the 70's.

There is a guide on ebay, go to books and type in CLEP in the search area. It's 5.00 (her seller name is xenia) and she will send it to you via attachment. I used it, it gives you literary terms, practice reading, etc. Then buy the College Board Clep book from Amazon (about 19.00). There's a sample test in there for Anaylizing Lit. Try that test and see where you fall. If you are hitting a little over 50% raw score, schedule the exam, you will pass.

I feel about algebra how you feel about Literature, I feel I can't get it but I'll probably have to take the algebra clep at some point. Just give what I'm telling you a try. If you still don't get it then I guess you can try something else.

I'm clepping out of entire BS degree, all tests, no classes. I've passed two tests so far, 5 more to go and I've got a BS in my hands and I'm off to a master's degree. Go to DegreeForum.com. This is a site recently developed to help people pass clep, dantes, ECE tests, etc. Also, another site is DegreeInfo. com. Another excellent tool for passing general education requirements. If you gotta do it, you gotta do it. It's good to have people who have done these tests there to help you. They can't help you on the nursing tests but they can on general ed and they also can help find DL classes if you absolutely need them.

Best wishes to you. Lori

I can't stand poetry myself, and I'm inclined to agree with Lori that it seems like a worthless credit. In fact, most general ed courses bored me to tears. For some reason, the one I hated the most was Sociology. Could you get any more boring than that?

The CLEP practice tests and study guides are a worthwhile investment, though. And there are official CLEP study guides out there for pretty cheap. Good luck!

Yes I got humanaties credit for foreign language.

I'm also seriously consider to enroll into EC. But when I called today, I was unable to get answers about which CLEP exam will apply to which EC general subjects. That's good to know that this one can apply towards Humanities. Do you get 6 credits just from passing the CLEP analyzing/interpreting lit? or just 3 credits as most subjects? Where in the EC web site or college catalog would I find the information (CLEP exams vs. EC courses with credits earned etc)? Any help will be highly appreciated !!!

You get 6 credits. You need to go to their website. It's not very well done but if you will take some time you can find the info on the site. I am NOT a nursing student at Excelsior, I'm already a nurse. I am testing out of a BS in Psychology from Excelsior. In order to get guidance from them on the phone you will have to be enrolled unfortunately. I'm not familiar with all the requirements for their nursing degree, I am familiar with their general education requirements. You need to look at what they require in the nursing program for the general education requirements. There is also a page that shows all tests, clep, dantes, TESC, GRE subject tests, and Excelsior tests, how much credit they give and where they fall in their core areas.
