I'm not a CNA, but I have an interview for a caregiver position at an ALF. I am kind of nervous. I have no idea about the pay.
Caregiving often pays only $8.00 if you're lucky, sometimes only minimum wage. Great job with very nice emotional rewards, but not very good compensation for what you do.
There is a job fair I plan to go to on Friday, at a "luxury" senior living facility in Ossining NY and they are paying $10/hr plus benefits(not sure how soon the benefits start), it will cost me $20.00 a day for transportation. I know how much work Cna's do and I was just wondering was $10/hr enough? I forgot to add that if I get certified to pass meds, salary will go up to $11/hr.
CNA work is typically very hard work that pays very little. If you have a family to support, it's usually not enough to live on unless you have another wage-earner in the house.
I'm a CNA and I get paid 11.06 an hour and I only started a 2 months ago.I've looked at living by myself but i'ts not enough to live on so atm I'm living with my parents mind you I just turned 18 and I'm still in high school so this job is mainly about saving up for me because otherwise I'd be just scrapping by.

Wow hippychicky, I'm impressed. I remember dreaming of 11 an hour during high school xp. You are very blessed. I'm sure your parents are proud and would prefer you to stay!

From what I hear around where I live (SoCal) 10 per hour is normal for starting range. Sometimes 8.
But due to your transportation, I don't think that job fair would be your best fit, unless you can move close.
