$10/hr,is it enough?

There is a job fair I plan to go to on Friday, at a "luxury" senior living facility in Ossining NY and they are paying $10/hr plus benefits(not sure how soon the benefits start), it will cost me $20.00 a day for transportation. I know how much work Cna's do and I was just wondering was $10/hr enough? I forgot to add that if I get certified to pass meds, salary will go up to $11/hr.

Specializes in 10.

I worked as a CNA for a County run nursing home and I started out at 13.59

My per diem job pays me 15.00

10.00 in Ossining is not a very good starting rate. I would really talk to Human Resources and see if you can negotiate a better salary. Good luck.

I'm not a CNA, but I have an interview for a caregiver position at an ALF. I am kind of nervous. I have no idea about the pay.

Your transportation money is quite a lot for that rate of pay.

Specializes in Med-Surg/urology.

I'm not in NY, but in my experience, those "luxury" facilities are often the ones who pay the lowest. I'd keep looking if I were you. Good luck with your decision!

Caregiving often pays only $8.00 if you're lucky, sometimes only minimum wage. Great job with very nice emotional rewards, but not very good compensation for what you do.

CNA work is typically very hard work that pays very little. If you have a family to support, it's usually not enough to live on unless you have another wage-earner in the house.

Just wanted to update, I got the job as long as I passed the personality test. They will start me at $11.50/hr. I was expecting minimum wage so that's good.

I'm a CNA and I get paid 11.06 an hour and I only started a 2 months ago.I've looked at living by myself but i'ts not enough to live on so atm I'm living with my parents mind you I just turned 18 and I'm still in high school so this job is mainly about saving up for me because otherwise I'd be just scrapping by.

Wow hippychicky, I'm impressed. I remember dreaming of 11 an hour during high school xp. You are very blessed. I'm sure your parents are proud and would prefer you to stay! :D

From what I hear around where I live (SoCal) 10 per hour is normal for starting range. Sometimes 8.

But due to your transportation, I don't think that job fair would be your best fit, unless you can move close.

So Cal average is $10. Get your HHA and with Home Health is could go up. If you have your HHA my company pays 12 an hour plus 15 a visit for bed bath for drive. 26 bucks a visit isnt bad. Four or five bed baths a day and you got it made.
