How did you do it?

When you started nursing school did you have a job or kids? It is amazing how woman have overcome these obstacles. I am very young and do not have kids and will quit my job to pursue nursing.

School is hard enough I can't imagine how some woman are able to balance a job and kids with this. I've noticed these woman are mature and my age and maturity can work against me. I want to know what are my chances in succeeding nursing school I'm a B student but have alot of maturing to do. I would also like to know how you guys went through nursing school whether you had a kid or job also and how you got through it?

I survived RN school with four kids and my own business. It was rough, and that's an understatement. During RN school I probably had the messiest house around, neglected my family/friends/business and never got enough sleep. It was a long hard road for me to take but it was all worth it. Time management and prioritizing are musts. There is a balance that you have to find and sometimes even that balance gets messed up. Don't sweat the small stuff. It can be done.

I started ADN program in Sept 2011. I quit a full time job(was no choice as I worked a state job 8-430)...My husband and I have 4 children.....right now, they are 9, 7, 5.5, and 2.5(when I started school, they were 8, 6, 4.5, and 21months). It's been very very hard. Hubby and I have to follow a strict budget and we always feel there isn't enough money. I study often and stay organized. It's very hard, but I have made a B in every single class so far..and have until May 2013 until graduation :) You can do it!!! Women do what needs to be done, it's part of our makeup. You have kids? That's OK, b/c as women we are used to having a higher workload and we adjust :)

Just FYI, the OP is a man lol

Umm, good to know lol! Well OK, well men can adjust too :) Im serious though, it is doable. It's hard work and you will get it done! believe me, not having kids can go either way, 1)it can help you to understand pediatrics and some illnesses that are common, and 2)not having kids means you have more time to study and have a bit more social life :)

LOL!

Well, if he has kids then he can still adjust. Just not as well as us, women ;-) jk! My husband always admits he'd be lost without me and he doesn't see how I do it all. Maybe that's why he cried when I got accepted-- he's totally not the mushy type either.

Haha thanks ladies I am a man hope I'm not discriminated against in peds and ob. And I agree us men need woman but I do believe woman need us men as well. Some woman say a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bike and I just disagree. I don't have kids and won't be working. I'm a procrastinater I hope I change that soon.

I'll agree with you, because I couldn't do it without my husband. He is great and I am truly blessed. I don't see why you'd be discriminated in Peds & Ob. My OB and ped are both male. Don't procrastinate. Get yourself a planner and pencil stuff in. Get a corkboard/white board. Pin stuff with the dates and also allow yourself adequate time to get those things done.

Yeah my brain will just stop if I try to take in to much at once. I get so lazy during the first week of school I'm going to need to learn how to make coffee. I'm going to need it

I am married with an 18 month old. I am blessed that my Husband works to support our family while I am in school. I start ADN program at my CC in the Fall! I have done extremely well in College this time around (went 10 years ago and dropped out!). I have all A's and B's and one C! I feel like these Nursing courses are going to be something like I have never seen! I study constantly, but I'm also a huge procrastonator with mild to sever OCD! (if that makes sense!) My mind wanders when I read and I feel like I can't do ANYTHING if the house is a mess! i know these two downfalls are going to affect me greatly in NS if I don't fix them now! My son is very well behaved and would rather play with his toys than with Mommy! This post may not make much sense! I'm tired!!

I'm the same way my mind just goes places. I can't wait to have kids I'm waiting to finish nursing school first

I'm seriously ADD, so it's always a struggle! I understand with procrastinating. You'll just have to work at it! Good luck! And btw, get a Keurig!! It makes the best coffee and is beyond easy. Pour in the amount of water needed, pop in a kcup and it comes out! Perfect! I love mine :)

My husband always says that about needing me but it definately goes both ways! I wouldn't be where I am without him by my side :)
