How do you schedule yourself when working 8's and e/o weekend?

Simply said. I'm wondering how to schedule myself at my new job. Now, they might go ahead and schedule me however they want to, but what would be your ideal schedule when working 8's and every other weekend?

I work in LTC working every other weekend and 8 hour shifts. They'll schedule you depending on the facility's staffing needs.

I worked having every other mon, fri, and weekend off. So my schedule was Mon-thur. and sat/sun. then Tue-Friday, off sat. sun.

Just cross your fingers that the shifts are for (roughly) the same time of day... IMO nothing is more brutal than having to be at work all day for a few days then a day or two off then having to work overnights.

It'll all be 3-11 shift! :)

I'm part time, 5 guaranteed shifts every 2 weeks with every other weekend. I try to block it around the weekends, ie. I pick a lot of Fridays and Mondays to give myself runs of 3-4 work days in a row. It's easier when I know the patients I'll receive, and working one day on, one day off somewhat eliminates that advantage (I work on a busy med-surg floor with high turnover). I also try to pick up the 3-11 right after my 7-3 shift in exchange for being taken off the schedule for the following day's 7-3. Working 16.5 on one day is more convenient for me than coming in 2 days in a row.
