How Nurses are Viewed!

I thought I would share this experience on how children view nurses. When Girl Scout Brownie Troop #377 was asked which Professional they wished to invite in order to earn a merit badge in Health Care and to learn about what that professional does - 13 of 14 girls age 6-7 picked Nursing as the top choice. They learned that Men can be Nurses, and Woman can be Doctors and all of them were happy to have their BP taken, learn how to properly clean a wound, and size a band aid correctly. Nurses are though of as "the best fixers of Owwies and Ouchies" - So for all Nurses listening - We are in fact admired and appreciated more than you realise. Keep up the good work!

Sounds like it was a good lesson for them. Considering that a lot of adults can hardly grasp the concept of male nurses, these kiddos are now way ahead of the curve. :)

I baby-sit. I mentioned to the kid the I'm studying to be a nurse, and she said, "Nurses are women who help doctors." I just about fell over in disgust, but I definately told her a few things.

these kids are smart... haha... :D:p

Little girl I used to babysit said.. Nurses are the ladies at the doctor's office that hand out stickers! :uhoh3: She said she saw it on TV.
