How many weeks is orientation typically?

So I've been working on the psych unit for about a year now and it was my very first hospital job as a nurse! I just got offered a new position and am transferring to the telemetry floor. I am super excited about this but also nervous because this is my first job working on the medical floor at a hospital!

I am anxious about how long my training will be because I only had three weeks for my psych position, which was fine. I am wondering what other hospitals' orientation is like? I am not technically a new grad nurse, but I've never been on the medical floor before at the same time. I am worried they might try three weeks again since it is under the same health system.

Likely they will.....and you should do well, don't forget you are now an experienced nurse

Many, many of your psych skills will transfer to the new job. (And you'll be valued by your new colleagues because of your psych knowledge. The mentally ill get admitted to the hospital for physical reasons too -- as do their families. ). The best way to find out the real skinny is to ask . . . But I'm sure they'll want you to be competent before they turn you loose on their patients!

It can really vary, only the manager or charge nurse knows for sure. There are a lot of you tube videos about telemetry interpretation for nurses to get you a little head start on your new job.

8 weeks new grad on inpt psych. Then after 1.5 yes doing that I got 12 weeks moving to an IMC unit in a different system.
