How many times can you take the NCLEX exam??

someone told me you can only take it 3x then you are no longer able to take it, or you have to go back to school.

Which doesnt make sense to me....

It all depends on the state. Have seen some post that they failed twice and state required a refresher course where some states like Florida require a course doing after 3rd failure and if you fail again then have to do nursing again. Other states have unlimited attempt times.

California is unlimited... it appears...

Different policies for different states. In CA it is unlimited. In another state you must pass within four years of graduation from school. Another state will require taking a review course if you aren't successful in their time frame and yet another will make you repeat nursing school. Hope the OP has been successful by now.

In many states you can take it as often as you want. They won't turn down the registration fees.
