Hi,

Just wandering how long have you all waited for your excelsior college acceptance notice. I am going crazy waiting.. I'm on my second week of waiting, but I just want to know.. Has anyone had trouble with them accepting classes.

Thx

Mine took about three weeks, I think. Have you made sure they've received all your transcripts?

Hi Lunah,

Congrats on passing your boards! Yes.. I know they received my transcripts, but I am just very ready to get started. Once I get my notice, what can I expect to happen next?

You can go ahead and sign up for Health Safety. That's the first nursing test. You can down load the content guide and start studying while you wait.

Do I have to be a registered student to download the health safety info. I can't find it on their site.

Thx

relax...and WAIT. I had thought, originally, 2 weeks. was advised it would be 3 weeks, turned out to be about 7 weeks. go figure.

and now, I am one day away from signing up, but all this info re georgia and virginia has me scared to be honest. so, great to be accepted after a long wait...but who wants to sign the dotted line re fees only to possibly be subject to a whim of a ruling that could affect years of studying and $$ down the drain. :thnkg:

On the other hand, delaying enrollment can make you ineligible for licensure in a state where you could have done the EC program if you'd enrolled already. For example, my fine Commonwealth of Virginia ... students had to be enrolled by a date in April, and they have have been given until 12/31/2009 to finish and be NCLEX-eligible in order to obtain licensure by examination in Virginia. But if students didn't enroll by that date in April, they are out of luck, period. There are a few people I know of who had already taken some pre-reqs and the first nursing exam, but now can't enroll because EC isn't letting students from Virginia enroll anymore due to the foolishness going on in Richmond. So they lost out because they waited, unfortunately.

But I can understand the hesitation, totally. If, as a paramedic, I had access to a traditional bridge program or something like ISU's LPN-BSN, I probably would have done that instead of EC. But there aren't many true P-to-RN programs around at all (zero in my area), and the full two years of traditional school just wasn't an option for me -- I did paramedic school full-time while working more than full-time, and it took a heavy toll on my personal life. Not doing that ever again.

I'm amused that my brand-spankin'-new Virginia RN license says "License to Practice as a Registered Nurse - Multi-state Privilege." Heh. :D
