How do you like your LPN program?

I'm still in my LPN program, but go to a school where there's a RN program too. It's interesting how there are some people who strongly dislike the program, yet others in the same program are really happy with it. We've had RNs drop out and start the LPN program, and most of them assure us not to go into our school's RN program, to go elsewhere. I've heard horror stories about there being no chance to pass, etc. Others are just fine. I start the RN program in Jan, so I guess I'll see.

My LPN program is excellent. It's not easy, and we've had a handful of people not make it. My instructor is sometimes really nice, but mostly she's out to teach us, which doesn't always equal nice or easy, for sure. I like my LPN program.

I hope your LPN/RN program is better than what it seems. I know I was really unhappy about some things first semester, but now see that it was part of the learning process-some lessons that were meant to be. Hopefully there's something like this going on with your program, where it's preparing you for the injustices of the "real" nursing world.

Yes I suppose you hear all different opinions. I suppose I'm most offended by the negativity and utter discouragment from administration. It seems I'm paying them an awful lot to teach me, not try to discouragement me & others from being a nurse. Once again--a disgrace.

It amazes me how some schools are doing this sort of thing. Being that I am only a very new student to my school. (2 weeks) I have had nothing but positive experiences.

In fact they are constantly telling us never to stop learning. They encourage us when we are done with the LPN program to go on and gather even more education.

While my school is strict and hard they are also very helpful and have a pretty good open door policy for any type of trouble. I go to an accelerated program and boy I can tell you one thing I knew what accelerated meant but I don't think I ever truly understood what the word meant until now. We learn something one day test out the very next morning. There is really no room for failure either.

As for everyone having a different opinion its like that every where. I am sure people would have negative experiences about the school I attend also. But I also think many (not all) people base there opinions on their experiences and personally (MHO) I think when it comes to nursing you need to grasp it all if you can not fully put yourself into it 100% and then muster up another 50% your outcome will not be as good. NOT saying this is your situation by any means. Just a general comment on how peoples opinions very.

But if you are truly unhappy with your school and you do not feel you are getting the education you paid for. The best bet for you is to maybe look for another school and see what you can salvage of the money you have already paid into the program.

Question for you... If you received that type of note after your clinical, but you state you know the material. I would simply ask your teachers then what they feel you are not making the mark on. With a vague response like that its up to you to find out what they feel you need to be applying in clinical. Have you done that?

i've heard mostly crap about this school, but so far (and yes, it's only been a week) the lpn program here has been quite good. the instructors seem knowledgeable and they can actually teach....who'd have guessed?

my criteria was simple: are they teaching the appropriate material in a structured format that promotes learning? and, are they organized?

in my opinion that answer is yes. we're doing a&p 1, nursing fundamentals 1, and professional awareness (incl. the history of nursing), and again, although this is only our first week, the instruction has been more than acceptable. i have had 2 years of conventional education at a state university to compare, and this seems pretty much the same - except for lt's really (really) small cafeteria and teeny-tiny library....lol.

hopefully things won't go downhill from here.

I actually really like my program. It's been about 6 weeks now. There is some undercover cattiness(lol) and there is definitely some people who are a waste of space. (IMO) The instructors are great. One is a bit menapausal and will tell u she is so she has her days and she rambles too...blah blah...like today we were studying reproductive and we ended up talking about spousal abuse..she gets off topic alot!! But other than that I have no major complaints. Oh too many tests...lol..:chuckle:banghead:

Really good school both the LPN and RN programs..
