How Competitive are the Accelerated BSN Programs

Hi,

I'm applying to three 2nd Bachelor's Accelerated BSN programs (UMASS Amherst, MGH, and Mass College of Pharmacy and Health Professions). I was wondering if someone could tell me how their stats were on their applications. Not really sure how tough they are to get in. Also anyone know how much each program is for tuition and fees...kind of confusing on their websites.

Any help would be great!

I am a graduate of the 1st class at MCPHS accelerated BSN, and it's a new program, so not that hard to get into. the acceptance rate is around 65-70%.

good luck

Is this is one in worcester? which sciences did you need before you applied? it starts in Jan right?

yes, it starts in January, and lasts 16 months. very expensive though...about $38-40,000 for the length of the program. prereqs needed are : chemistry 1 and 2 with labs, anatomy and physio 1 and 2 with labs, microbiology with lab, statistics, and human growth and development. they do accept community college credits but prefer they come from a 4 year institution

Hi,

There were almost 400 applicants this year for 50 spots at MGH IHP. At the Curry open house they told us that there are usually 250ish applications for 30 spots. Good luck!! There is a new accelerated program at UMASS boston as well.

Thanks!

Hey there! I'm applying to The Accelerated BSN program at MCPHS too and a bit worried if I will get it. My GPA in my undergrad wasn't stellar: 2.7 although my grades in my pre-recs are mostly As and couple of B's. Do you think my GPA is too low to get in? Also, is it true there is a new BNS program at Umass Boston? Im tryign to find it online and can't. Any info you can provide would be great! thanks!

There is also an 18 month program which starts every summer at Simmons College, which I'm starting in two weeks, if you're interested.

I actually did my undergrad there. I looked into Simmons but just saw an accelorated program into a Masters if you already have a BS in an other field. I'm curious, which program are you going for?? Thanks!

They have several different programs, the one I'm going into requires that you have a bachelor's degree, but it does not have to be a BS and does not have to be healthcare related. I am starting the 18 month, second bachelor's accelerated program in late June in two weeks. It is 18 months of nursing classes only and I will graduate in Dec. 2009 with a BSN.

There is also a master's program which is identical for the first 18 months to the program I am in, but then continues on with graduate work after you successfully pass the NCLEX, acquire a part-time job as an RN, and continue in school for a while longer (I'm not sure how long).

More information on the different degrees is available at:

I've been searching the link you sent me over and over and I can't seem to find the program you are in where you can have a a BA/BS and get a BS in Nursing in 18 months. I'm REALLY interested because thats what Im looking for. Can you tell me the exact title of this program or a direct link? Sorry to be a pain but Im very excited that theres a program like this at Simmons! Thanks and good luck!

You're not being a pain at all! I'm glad to help.

I actually was unable to find the program I'm starting under that link, which I think is for Master's degrees only.

Here's a link within the undergraduate nursing school's programs for the BSN program I'm starting.

And here're more info from the Dix Scholars program (older students, which this program falls under)

You can also request an admissions packet from Simmons. Hope this helps!
