I have my BSN. Working on my OCN. I want to become an oncology NP. How do I get there? & can I do it online? Thanks!

Would you want to do acute or more outpatient care of oncology patients? If acute go acute care NP. If outpatient do more adult-gero or family. There are some programs that do both. There are a few programs that also have an oncology focus but be aware that there is not actual "oncology NP exam." You will be a ACNP or AGNP or FNP. Duke is one that has an actual oncology focus but there may be more out there.

Oh you'll also need to decide MSN vs DNP. There are no states actively considering DNP as entry level for NP practice so don't let that scare you into DNP. At this point it's a matter of preference and your individual situation.

You probably won't be able to do an acute care np program online either.

Well, many of the programs around me are PRIMARILY online. As long as one is decently close to your area you can probably swing 1-2 days on campus per semester.

I know of several in central US going to the University of South Alabama. I am unsure if you ever have to go on campus but if they can live 10 hours away from the campus they are probably pretty easy to work with living a ways away. You will, of course, have clinical whereever you are placed or can find a spot, though.

Hi, I've moved to AN's Student Nurse Practitioner forum--many helpful threads here.

Yeah. Most of the acute care programs are online in my area.
