How to become a case manager

Published

Is it possible to get a case management job if I have been doing school nursing for the past 6 school years now?

I have been a RN 16 years. Spent 2 years working with adults on a surgical case floor, 4 years working as a Foster Care Nurse Case Manager, 4 years working in a Pediatric Clinic right before coming to school nursing.

I want to switch gears. No longer want to do school nursing.

Specializes in Ambulatory Case Management, Clinic, Psychiatry.

I think so- never hurts to apply!

Did you find a case management job?

I too am in school nursing and have considered case management positions.

You could apply but without a solid clinical base in the area of case management desired (I.e. acute care, population health, primary care) it would be pretty difficult. School nursing might prepare you to do peds case management, particularly in a primary care setting where your current skills might best apply.

Thanks for the response!

I do actually have 10 years of pediatric primary care but not as a case manager.
